About this listen

Jace Blackbriar just wants to become a blacksmith and live a comfortable life in his village. His family never wanted him to become an adventurer...and he isn't going to break that promise.

Jace wants to learn to make goods that pay well so that he can support himself, and maybe even send some money to his family. His goal is to gain the blacksmith class and start his own forge. But then, one of the other apprentices decides he needs to be taught a lesson.

When a rare and valuable magic item is destroyed, Jace is left with a racial transformation and cast into the wilds without guidance. Now, he has to figure out how to survive in a kill-or-be-killed world as a monster race that most goodly folk will want dead.

Accidental Incubus contains explicit elements and some adult content.

the narrator is really bad

like holy shit this guy feels like he has no idea what his own mouth is! One that gets me bad is when he says Arr-CHArr-REE instead of archery like a normal human. Everything is delived slow and with an off rhythm cadence. It is mostly solved by turning up to 1.5-8 times speed.

credit where it is due. there are no lip noises or bad breathing into the mic problems.

sigh

Great book and liked it up until the last minute. I have a special hate for cliffhangers. It's lazy and any writer worth their salt would find a way to entice readers to continue their series without a cliffhanger. It lost two stars just for that.

Josh did a great job narrating.

A good start to a series

I really enjoyed the works and the characters in this book and the twist and Cliff hanger did come as a bit of surprise at the end thou I did have an idea right before it happened

cliffhangers are an annoying crutch

cliffhangers are downright infuriating when completely redundant to keeping interest in the story, it's likely to make me not pickup the next book even if I liked the story

Narrator Sux but the Story is Solid

So the story is a little rough around the edges, the narrator is awful at pacing and tone, yet the story shines through. This is most definitely an early attempt at writing, however if this author took some classes or started analyzing other's works, or just got a very good editor he would thrive, this book is by no means a work of art and the narrator makes that even more clear with his horrible pacing and tone, but given time an proper care this author will become a common name in male erotica.

Not made from the same mold as the others in this genre.

This book does fall into the harem lit genre I personally listen too regularly. However it doesn’t fit so perfectly into that mold. Those tend to go one or two ways, edgy asshole or goody two shoes. This mc has opinions and stances firmly in both good and evil. There is a pretty gnarly cliff hanger but from what I’ve seen of the second book it is resolved in a satisfying way. My main issue here is the lack of dual narration. The narrator does the best he can, which saved this book for me, because normally I can’t stand single male narrators so it’s a testament to him I was able to make it through this book. It would however help the series incredibly to have dual narration.

A Dark Story

- Harem based (makes sense, incubus and all)
- Decent amount of Adult Content (Not to much, not to little)
- Cliff Hanger ending.

I enjoyed the spin on what is classically in the classic tropes that haunt this type of story (at least from what I've seen). Being a jerk like I am I expected there to be a good lead up to the second book, something to hook readers in. Which book 2 is ALREADY out on Kindle, and if rumor on the Author's Facebook and other places is true, it will eventually be in Audio version very soon. Looking forward to the next installment.

Ok

The performance is a bit slow, and it's made worse by too much of the book being spent on stat sheets. More than an hour of this book is devoted to reading stat sheets. The plot is ok. The characters are ok. The author likes butt stuff. Fortunately you can play it faster and skip ahead when it gets too tedious.

Note to author: Please just tell us what has changed in the character sheet instead of detailing everything?
