Acerca de esta escucha

For more than a decade, while the First War of Scottish Independence rages, fierce warrior Conall MacGregor has dreamed of the revenge he will have against the man who robbed him of his family and home. To this end, he abducts the daughter of his enemy, hoping to force a marriage and reclaim what is rightfully his. He has no idea that the stubborn lass will turn his world upside-down, and that he will be the one held captive.

Half-English Tess Munro has no plans to shame her father and people by wedding MacGregor the Murderer. Despite her tremendous fear and a regrettable liking of his kisses, she staunchly refuses to wed him. She tries often to escape, both Conall and the hateful people of Inesfree, who leave no question about their absolute distrust and dislike of the Munro prisoner.

Soon, Conall's reasons for stealing Tess grow more distant, and Tess's desire to flee begins to fade, but a threat greater than their own pride will challenge the very fragile existence of their growing desire for each other.

Conall MacGregor has conquered many enemies, but can he win the heart of one stubborn lass?

Contains mature themes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. One of the reasons I loved it is because it is based on historical facts around my ancestors Clans. It gives us a snippet of what their lives were like, the challenges, the battles, the suppression of women. A wonderful story is woven in those times & is probably very close to real possibilities. Narrators excellent also. Thank you for book well written.

This is a very good book. I couldn’t stop listening to it. It’s really great. I’ll be listening again.

Rebecca Ruger is a new author for me. While I enjoyed this book, it took me days to finish it and that's not the norm for me. I think the story could have been shorter and this is not one I will listen to again. Anyway, I enjoyed it and Stewart Crank is a good narrator. Now I am on to the next book in the series.

Enjoyable Book

Was impressed the the historical
Reference and story line. Narrator was great with the voice variances.

Great storyline

It's really refreshing to have a storyline where the female character is strong in her convictions and doesn't completely cave after a single, mind-melting kiss.
It's equally refreshing to have the male character that is strong but doesn't default to the stereotypical 'might is right' domineering jerk.
There are scenes in this story that I've not experienced in others! *See the May festival!
Narrator was brilliant will well developed voices for all the male and female characters!
Terrific!

Very Engaging with Well Developed Characters

This Audible had a lot of potential, but something was missing. I almost did not finish it because the characters were too stilted. I don't know if it was the narrator or the writing. I gave a 4- Star rating because I'm sitting on the fence with this review. I'm basing my rating on nebulous feelings, and that is not fair to the author. I simply did not "feel" this story. I'm going to try another Audible from what I think is a series by this same writer. Hopefully I will be able to really get into the next book.

Not bad, but missing something.

I wound up loving this story.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was "His" behavior in the beginning - like, the first 3 hours of listening. He made me so mad!

I hate that I actually loved both main characters at the end... I was still mad at him 😆

Great story - Irritating Man

As always the story is great and I love this narrator, Stewart Crank. The only thing that I would like is for the romance to start earlier in the story. The constant interuptions get in the way of this.

Love Rebecca Rugers Stories

While I enjoyed this story, it wasn’t the epic I expected. Heroine, again, was silly and idiotic and really ignorant. I did like the Laird and he was a very strong character. Good use of supporting characters. Voice actor was excellent. Overall good but heroine interrupted the story flow with her dumb antics and lack of common sense.

Full of longing, too much longing

I tried for well over a week to like this story. I really did. Premise was good. Main characters were good people, in spite of the H’s behavior in the very beginning. The narrator was EXCELLENT. He did a great job with what he was given, and I hung in there longer bc of the quality of narration. But the “story” felt more like a description of events and actions with no real emotional connection to the characters. I was not “there” and never got lost in the story or characters. In fact, the author did not make me care about any of them. She wrote of very nice people, often doing kind things, which I appreciated, but they seemed flat and without humor or depth. It was so boring! Not returning bc I did hang in there thru chapter 23 or so, but not finishing. Maybe this was her first effort? Wasted credit.
