About this listen

An heiress on the run...

In autumn of 1817, Miss Nannette Clairmont discovers she must flee from her disreputable great-uncle Octavius, and soon, finds herself managing the household of a handsome American gentleman.

Mr. Andrew Garvin’s situation seemed ideal on paper. He is gone from the home often, in search of antiquities, leaving behind four children in need of guidance and supervision. Nan thinks it will be the perfect place to hide until her trust is released into her hands, but what she finds when she arrives is a household in an uproar, no staff, and a very handsome and roguish American who makes her heart beat just a little bit faster. The question is, will he discover who she is before she is ready to be found?

Sweet Regency Romance

I listened to this in one sitting. Short, well written story with a smart heroine. I love how she used her intelligence to get her out of a sticky situation. I also liked her interaction with the children in the story. Her romance with Andrew was sweet. This was a nice way to spend a few hours. I really liked the narrator as well. She reminded me a little of Clare Danes.

Beautiful Unexpected Romance ❤️

I enjoyed this fast paced and well written storyline!

Lady Nannette is an heiress on the run from her money hungry and cruel great Uncle.

She finds herself working for an American family with four children. Mr. Andrew is a widow and has two girls and two boys, and they are rambunctious!

As the story progresses, Miss. Nannette, and Mr. Andrew fall in love with each other ❤️
Andrew finds out Nannette’s secret and confronts her great uncle.
They get married for love and to protect her inheritance.
This is a lovely, short novella, tastefully written and with a fast paced flowing romance!
I loved listening to it!

Dynamic performance brings story to life

This was a charming and thoroughly portable tale of societal intrigue brought to life by an impressive effort by narrator Kate Vargulich. The story is easy to follow, and provides a pleasant few hours of entertainment for those seeking a little more pre-Victorian drama in their lives. Vargulich's range especially aids, with a number of consistent dialects and vocal registers filling out the diverse cast of characters. Give it a listen!

too short, danger resolved too easily

This may have done better as a longer story so the Denver could have been fleshed out a little more. As it was, it had to much detail in some spots and not enough in others, though none of it was near enough.

Narrator didn’t maintain accents well. Also, her voice was too high, and she did “prissy” English accents. When she did the male voices her voice was a decent pitch.
