About this listen

In Something in the Heir, smart, capable heiress Emmeline Pershing will do anything to keep her beloved home; and all it takes is an arranged marriage and a teeny white lie to fulfill her family’s silly inheritance rules! But now her little fib means that she and her completely unsuspecting husband are going to inherit big―and very messy!―trouble in this spicy, sexy delight from bestseller, Suzanne Enoch.

Emmeline and William Pershing have enjoyed a perfectly convenient marriage for eight years. Their relationship is a seamless blend of their talents and goals. They’ve settled into separate, well-ordered lives beneath the same roof, and are content to stay that way―or so Emmeline thinks. And if William has secretly longed for a bit more from the woman he adores, he’s managed to be content with her supreme skills as a hostess and planner, which has helped him advance his career.

Then when Emmeline’s grandfather, the reclusive Duke of Welshire, summons them both for his birthday celebration and demands they bring their two little angelic children, William is stunned to discover that his very proper wife invented not one, but two heirs to fulfill the agreement for living at Winnover. But surely if Emmeline and William team up and borrow two cherubs to call their own, what could go wrong? Enter George, age eight, and Rose, five―the two most unruly orphans in Britain.

As the insanity unfolds, their careful, professional arrangement takes some surprisingly intimate turns as well. Perhaps it takes a bit of madness to create the perfect happily ever after.

Something in the Heir

This story was great fun, The characters were well developed by the author, and the narrator performed them well. I especially enjoyed the portrayal of little Rose.

Fun and lively tale

I picked this up, then had been putting off reading it. Looking at the summary, it just sounded tedious. But it was done as a light-hearted and fun romp. Even when elements were added to the story that could have made it heavy or awkward, they were handled in a light-hearted way. It never felt plausible, but I don't require that from the books I enjoy. It was well written and well narrated, and I enjoyed the time I spent listening to it.

It’s clean, funny and there’s actually a plot

Susan Enoch is on a list of authors I once really enjoyed but stopped getting due to the unfortunate ratio of sex:plot. Along with books that spent more time on sex than a viable plot, humor seemed to also disappear. This book was humorous, had character building, a great plot and clean.

Cute story, not a romance novel

This is a cute story about how a couple got some kids with (quite honestly) some forced language to shoe horn the book into the romance genre. (“When did he get so handsome?!” Or “where did those feelings come from?!”)

Very Cute Story

This is a sweet, humorous tale. The children are wonderful. I love the interactions between them and their supposed adoptive parents.

Wonderfully sweet

Entertaining, kept my interest - lots of problems to solve - and likable characters. Even if parts are predictable, it was a fun ride.

Fun read & SUPERB narrator!

I enjoyed the characters, especially the children. I liked the intertwining stories of the secondary characters as well. The narrator did a SUPERB job.

Don’t overlook this one for the deceptively lighthearted plot!

Boy… this one was terrific. Each of the characters was spot on. The twists and turns were great… but it was the humor that had me captivated. So well written. And perfectly narrated to focus on the action. I loved this book! I think you might love it, too.
