About this listen

Survival is always a fight.

Lieutenant Colonel Tanya von Degurechaff has become keenly aware of this after deploying to the freezing eastern front. The bone-chilling weather makes every move a struggle, grinding even the Empire's proud army to a halt. And yet, winter is the time for the flowers of intrigue to blossom. When a supposed ally begins acting suspiciously and enemies begin to collude, a profusion of conflicting interests and various secret deals will summon a maelstrom of confusion no one can control.

If only...

Probably one of the most used two words of war analyses and amateur historians to date when it comes to piecing together how an already failing and struggling nazi germany could of won the war ! But anyways into the actual review of the book.

In short this book is perfectly capitulated in detailing and lays bare the death nail that will ultimately spell the end of the imperial army via increasing nonviable logistics and pressure. Thus in turn bringing upon the start of an inevitable defeat Tanya predicted from his military college days. Although in hindsight Tanya really should have been far more aware of this, personal biases, rationality and worst of all deteriorating recollection of parallel events from earth blinded him to looking at this war being confident to only WW1 instead of the whole breath of both WWs. Yet, despite all of that Tanya probably already knew to some degree it was over for the empire when they let the republic get away to their african colonies. Overall 7/10, seeing as there's little action in this one. But personally I don't care, I just want to see how Tanya manages to escape the rapidly sinking ship and then counter attacks being x for dumping him into this bloody world.

Interesting story, but I wish they would make books longer and include more interactions with of the original characters

I'm loving this series.

Great series! I personally am really enjoying the journey through this thought provoking experience. it's turning into one of my favorites. I just wish the review process wasn't making me do a word count just to say I really enjoyed the book. :)

Setting up the chess board

This book is a lot slower that previous ones, but I feels necessary setting up all the chess pieces for what is about to come in the world war.

Wasn’t best if the series

Having been following these as they get translated this wasn’t the most engaging to me. If you really dig internal politics during war time though… then you’ll love this one

Lot of buildup and back ground

A good exploration of the ways of people and war. Mary Sue’s naive nature is well shown. Reminds me of some of the Honnor Harrington stories by David Webber. Definitely worth a listen.

More setup

this book similar to the last has mostly setup for the political and strategic positions of the empire. no major actions take place. however it is still another installment of one of my favorite light novel series that feels like it is building to an amazing ride of storytelling.

if you're reading comments of all volumes before deciding to jump in, I can say that this series is absolutely worth it.

Nothing happened

This book is plot setting, nothing really happened not even 1 major battle. The whole book was about the bad situation the empire is in. To be honest with the fact that in vol 5 was also plot setting, I was expecting major action in this one. If I had known I would have been so excited.
