Acerca de esta escucha

Charity Evans wants nothing more than to leave her troubled past behind and start afresh. The teacher at a London school for orphans is encouraged to have her memories blocked by hypnotist Samuel Gladstone, but when they experience visions with an unknown third person, they realize the past can never be truly erased. And now that past is returning to haunt Charity all over again.

Samuel is determined to help her, but how can a woman who trusts no man trust a hypnotist? And what dark secrets changed the charming gentleman into a desperate man who’ll do anything to keep those secrets buried?

The narration is stiff and robotic. The story is good, but it’s very difficult to get through due to the narrator. I’ll be reading books 2 and 3 instead of continuing to struggle.

Narrator is awful.

This story was good, but I did not enjoy the narrator at all. I wish it had been read by CJ Archer’s normal narrator!

Didn’t love the narrator

As others have mentioned I also have given up because of the poor narration therefore I cannot rate the story

I love C.J. Archer. LOVE her. I did not love these books. This is the second series of the Freakkhouse series, and it is just not making me happy, nor is it something I would expect from this author. The concept is good. But the actors are just not cutting the mustard for my sandwich. The first set in this series was okay and I pushed forward through it. This is the second set in the series and i was immediately turned off by the actors. I don’t know if they were trying to emulate what they considered to be English accents or were attempting to make like they were something from an old English countryside or what, but they were just not done well - especially the women. The men were not a whole lot better. The storyline was okay, but not as good as what I have read in the books I have loved up until now. I am trying to decide, even though I have already purchased them, if I am going to continue with the third set. This is not a common review from me about Archers books. I have been wildly in love with the series that I have read, which includes the first I read about the magicians. I went through those books one right after the other, And that was a sizable group to go through. But they were SOOOOOO good. And then I got hooked on the librarian series and again, fell in love. So I am going to take a break, and I am going to tell myself that I was expecting more of the same and it wasn’t what I expected and to read these again in a while and see if I am comparing apples to oranges. But I’m afraid that this set is just not my cup of tea. Hopefully I’m the one who has expected more of the same, and got a surprise from an altogether different approach to the stories I was used to. I’ll try these again, but I believe I will have the same opinion in that the presentation was putting me off. I just didn’t fine them believable as I did in the Glass series. It will not stop me from venturing into more of Archer’s books.

Wrong actors chosen for this

How can a narrator be both flat and unnecessarily exaggerated in her elocution? It makes me grit my teeth. I’ve listened to almost all of CJ Archer’s books but the narrators of the first two trilogies of Freak House are just painful. The first shrieked and sing-singed her way through the story, and this one doesn’t seem to know when to pause, start a sentence or show emotion with any normalcy. I may not be able to finish it.

Almost unbearable.

I made it thru despite the reader. Her pace and intonation of words and phrases is awful. It really detracts from the story which is lovely. Not sure can listen to the other two books done by this chick.

Reader is not good

This narrator sounds like she is reading a newspaper. It takes away from the story.

The narrator is not good.

Narrator is robotic and does a serious injustice to many familiar characters. Tommy is given an east-end accent throughout the story which shows how little the Narrator knows about the series.

CJ's books are always engaging and fun it's a bummer that this reading of it takes away so much of that joy.

Intriguing story, grating narrator

I made it through the whole book only because I have enjoyed so many of CJ Archers books. The story finally got interesting about half way through. The beginning was dull and felt disjointed. The narrator reads like a robot at times. Very odd. Not sure if I’ll continue with the second, but maybe.

Story ok. Narrator not.

I really enjoy CJ Archer books and was excited to get to this trilogy. While the story could have been fun to listen to, the reader majorly missed the mark. It was mostly flat until she broke into some bizarre cadence of illogical over exaggeration.

Interesting story ridiculous reader
