A delight!

I thoroughly enjoyed Isabel and Nick’s story. They make a mean crime fighting duo. I look forward to their next big adventure.

GREAT COZY MYSTERY

This book reads like an IMAX movie. It jumps off the page, pulls you in with strong leading characters, especially Nicholas's mother. Lots of hate and discontent, secrets, and reconnecting going on. But who doesn't love a good spy / love story. C.J Archer has become a new FAV on my list of authors.

Thank you for making this an audible book. They are fun with just a little heat.

I enjoyed all parts of this book—plot, characters, and narrator. Iam hooked on CJ Archer books.

Cozy Read

This is the perfect type of book I enjoy listening to as I go about my daily routine. It keeps me interested and engaged in the story without being too unbelievably fanciful.

Nice story poorly performed

I liked the story, the characters were lacking a little in depth but overall it was an enjoyable plot.
The narration was awful. The first time I started to listen I only got through 15 minutes and I had to put it down because it was so annoying. I managed to give it another try and the story managed to pull me in enough for me to listen despite the poor narrative. The voices female between characters can be very confusing. The pitch and inflection, even the speed for various events in the story was too monotonous. This narrator could become a good one if they were to breath a little more life into the narration.
The characters were a little predictable but the writer did provide some interesting twists.
As for the supernatural aspect, this is a good story for those who prefer “The Good Witch” level of supernatural.
Nice steamy scenes without launching fully into soft porn.

Hoped to like it more

I loved Archer's Glass and Steele series, and I was hoping for similar, with a different twist, this wasn't it.

The period of time (Elizabethian London) the story was supposed to set in was merely an afterthought. There weren't any period-specific details only to mention the queen and her secretary several times. It didn't play into the story very well.

Isabelle is supposed to be a witch. You don't really hear anything about this until halfway through the book. Even then, it's underwhelming. I was hoping more of her magical skills would be explained or used, there were several "action" scenes when it could have been added to spice it up.

The author decided to add lurid sex scenes to this story. Again, there wasn't any need for it. I feel like authors or publishers these days are just adding gratuitous sex speak because they think that's what readers want. They need to make the story better, not just add "throbbing erection" or "pink nipples" into a bland story expecting to make it better. It's lazy.
