About this listen

One man. Assassin. Caster. A new world. And a game that is as brutal as it is complex.

Michael finds himself in the realm of the Forever Kingdom, with no memory of how he got there and who he is. Even so, he must participate in the Grand Game and forge a new destiny for himself.

Dropped into a dungeon of monsters and strange magics, would you survive in a game where to lose means death?

Alone, and with little more than his wits to aid him, Michael must advance as a player, slay his foes, and gain experience. All while navigating the intrigues around him and discovering his purpose.

A world of powers, forces, and mysterious factions. A game with endless opportunities for advancement and power.

Join Michael on his epic adventure as he deals with the game's challenges, the machinations of the powers, and the ambitions of his fellow players.

The start of an exciting new portal fantasy epic!

Eh, the MC

I like it, but as it has been stated some of the introspection drags on and seems misplaced, unless you were going for overthinking MC

Gradation start

I like how the main character makes the best of his “ soup sandwich” situation.

Classes and Factions

The story and the way the dungeon had been done was rather well written as was the dungeon progression mechanics. The MC however was rather lacking and his past supposed knowledge from his other life quickly becomes forgotten/useless. The class system and synergies let alone the main character's choices made literally no sense to me as most classes he came across actually blend well together and later on made him more of a player/character especially with what he learns later on.

Overall, the constant questions and inability of the mc to figure things out on his own till like the end of the book where he still has to ask questions about things, he should have figured out just left me tired. Don't get me wrong the story is good and all but things there in could have been a lot better/made more sense. Also, it was not a completely "solo adventure in a new world" it starts that way and ends that way but was not completely solo.

Give this book a chance. You may love it, or you may not but it still worth a listen/read.

Love it but the MC..

He needs to stop being so dang cautious about everything it’s annoying to a point. Then he trust the undead bat too much for no reason.

Great start to a series!

Love it from beginning to end! The story plot was right on the money and not too much stat sheets to listen to either. Love the character development and world building! Can’t wait to see if book 2 keeps up with this awesome flow!

Not bad, but the MC makes no sense

The overall story the author is building is interesting, and the system is decent. This is LitRPG through isekai means, but uses the amnesia trope, which is annoying. The amnesia does somewhat account for the fact that the MC is dumb, but his decision making makes no sense other than it furthers the plot. I picked up the second volume of this series, and if these issues bother you, then skip it. The decision making only gets worse, and the MC lives through plot armor alone. This includes forgetting everything he learned in the this book, forgetting he is a scout, and generally just wandering intentionally from problem to problem due to some unnamed suicidal tendency.

As to the story itself. It is a dungeon crawl for the first half of the book, and faction wars within the dungeon for the second. The combat is decent, and is frequent. The characters are all horrible tropes. The interplay between the characters makes little sense.

Loved the Webnovel ...audiobook was even better

I'm hopeful there is a book 2 coming, because this one was too good to be one and done.

Can’t wait for the second book!

The story is great. I really enjoyed the magic system and the stats system. Definitely worth a credit.

Ya

This book is good. Except the narration was horrible. I had to put it on 1.3x which made it better.

Litrpg

When a book is labeled an Litrpg its main focus should be constant character progression in a RPG environment! That is exactly what the author has done in this book for 15 hrs plus! Throw in an excellent narrator with good writing and then you have The Grand Game.
