About this listen

BOOK 14 IN THE CHRONICLES OF ST MARY'S SERIES, FROM THE MILLION-COPY BESTSELLER JODI TAYLOR.

St Mary's is under investigation. Their director has been shot and Max is Number One Suspect. Can things get any worse? We all know the answer to that one.

Max needs to get away - fast - and a Brilliant Idea soon leads her to a full-scale uprising in twentieth-century China. If she can come by a historical treasure or two in the process, even better. That is, if she makes it out alive.

Then there's the small matter of Insight - the sinister organisation from the future hell bent on changing History for their own dark ends. Having successfully infiltrated their ranks, Max is perfectly placed to stop them. But she knows her cover will soon be blown - because it's already happened.

Can Max take down Insight before they come after her? The circle is closing, and only one can survive...

For fans of Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde, Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series and Doctor Who.

I want to work at St. Mary’s

Both the author and the narrator are among my all time favorites. Little details like “don’t think of him as a donkey, think of him as an ancient Egyptian forklift” make these books a treat to listen to.

Thank you both!

I've listened to this book at 75% of the speed just so I can elongate the pleasure. This has been a great wrap for the series (and I just wish for more Leon time in the last few books). The narration was as wonderful as always.

So far, I've loved every volume of the Chronicles of St. Mary's! This one was worth waiting for!

another delightful romp

Jodi Taylor doesn’t let up, and nor does Zara Ramm’s narration. I had re-listened to the whole damn series leading into the release of this book, and it was very enjoyable.

The new book … how do you say “more of the same” without it sounding boring? Because of course it isn’t. Boring, that is.

Max takes as many risks as ever, surrounded by the characters I love, in the kinds of situations that keep me listening late into the night. And Jodi Taylor keeps providing imaginative twists, with some proper fakeouts in the mix. To say more would be to spoil the fun! If you’ve come this far, you’ll want to read this one too.

Another great book

I enjoyed the book, but now I am sad. ‘Cause there is no other book to enjoy. At least not yet.

Another winner

Jodi Taylor never ceases to amaze with her stories. The pacing, the wit, the dialogue… all of it is spot on, leaving you with a book that is a fully engaging adventure and still begging for more. Zara Ramm (narrator) is absolutely exquisite and captures each character beautifully. Once again, we follow Max and her disaster magnet self on new adventures and let me tell you, none of it disappoints. With Jodi’s lovable characters (and each of them are so well written they could each have their own standalone series) you are taken on a new set of adventures into new territory. None of it is stale. It’s fresh, exciting and leaves you (once again) begging for more. There aren’t enough stars to rate this installment. Can we give more than five stars? 20/5. Jodi Taylor’s writing is sublime and everything she touches is gold.

Jodi Taylor knocks it out of the park again!!!

Between the writing and the narration I am heartbroken to get to the end of each of these novels, thrilled by the story and the story teller , but heartbroken it’s over. Beyond brilliant isn’t strong enough to describe the story, story telling and how I feel the characters become friends and family to me by the end of each book.
