Acerca de esta escucha

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder....

Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery.

Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland - and for her nothing will ever be the same again. With overprotective relatives on one hand and the world's most erratic spouse on the other, Jenny needs to become someone. And fast!

Fans of Jodi Taylor's best-selling Chronicles of St. Mary's series will adore the quirky humour in this new, contemporary novel. Jodi Taylor, International Woman of Mystery, spent some time working undercover for North Yorkshire County Library Service. Heavily disguised as the world's most incompetent facilities manager, she shifted dead dogs, fell out of mobile libraries, and spent far too much time in the gents' toilets. The idea to rewrite history first came to her while studying history A level at an evening class.

Just One Damned Thing After Another is her first novel and was originally self-published as an ebook; it was downloaded by more than 60,000 readers on Amazon.

Not a Sci-Fi & Fantasy book !

Any additional comments?

I didn’t love this book for a few reasons, the first is that I really was expecting some kind of a fantasy book anything supernatural other worldly or even just “out of the box” would have spiked my interest however with the exception of the golden horse (that have very little to do with the actual story) this is a very straight forward fiction story.

Second, while the writing is very fluent and the characters are well build and for the most part likable, the storyline is slow and Jodi will just have you roll your eyes, there is something unbelievable in this character who just seems to accept her situation not asking any questions or trying at any time to take control of her life.

The ending too was predictable and disappointing and all in all it just seemed to have all been pointless.

Very sweet story.

I enjoyed this story every bit as much as I have enjoyed all the St Mary's novels and the couple shorts.

I was leery of the narrator when I saw it was not Zara Ramm, but my concern turned out to be unnecessary. The narration was excellent.

I did have the primary villain figured out prior to the reveal, but that was ok-- it was still nice to see him get his comeuppance. This is a character-development story. Several of the main characters Jenny, Russell and Francesca changed over the course of the novel in positive ways. The aunt, uncle and cousin had their genteel masks removed.

The golden horse Thomas remains a mystery. We must accept his presence and his power on faith; there is no explanation. The donkey Marilyn and the grumpy cat were a hoot, they had so much personality--I am glad both she and the scruffy cat were rescued.

All in all a nice heartwarming and pleasant story.

Delightful

The story and the narration, pure pleasure. If you have ever had difficulty in saying what you want to say, or even knowing what to say when you wanted to say it, or if you have ever wished that you had someone in your corner who could guide and comfort you on this thing called life, then you will probably love this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Relatable

Loved this book and it was definitely a protagonist that I could relate to.

Due to her stutter and very low self esteem, Jenny keeps to herself and chooses to blend into the background, unnoticed. Her parents are deceased so she lives with her overprotective aunt and uncle. At age 13, she becomes suicidal, but is saved by a golden horse that only she can see and hear. But he's not imaginary...how could he be imaginary if she can see him and speak to him? Right?

This book has very well developed characters, witty British humor, a bit of a murder mystery, and just the right amount of a light romance...not the angsty, dramatic type of romance...a more realistic, flawed, humorous type of romance. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to dig into the next installment.

Even though there is a golden horse that speaks, this book is not for the kiddos.

Beautifully Perfect

I loved this book. LOVED it. I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and I have never felt so compelled to write a review. I love Jodi Taylor, have listened to all of the St. Mary’s books, which I also love; but this book was just perfect.

Excellent

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. I haven't had any luck picking books lately. It was a great relief to finally find one that kept me engaged from start to finish.

Which scene was your favorite?

The last dinner party.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't have any extreme reactions, but did experience both sadness and happiness throughout the book.

Beautiful

This was beautifully written. I originally downloaded ‘The Little Donkey’ short story before actually reading this one & I’m glad I did because I may not have given it a chance. I generally read things like the Harry Potter series, Sherlock Holmes & GoT and only read Jane Austin when it comes romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to reading ‘The Something Girl’.
