About this listen
Learn the beauty of saying no, rethink your boundaries, find your 'non-negotiables' and regain your power, passion and sense of purpose.
We live in an era of ‘yes, I can’. We tell ourselves that whatever we want to achieve, if we work hard enough, we can do it. But sometimes this results in something very different indeed – a severe case of ‘no, I really, really can’t’.
Burnout is a state of chronic stress that leads to physical and emotional exhaustion, cynicism, detachment, feelings of ineffectiveness and lack of accomplishment – many of the same symptoms as depression.
Burnout is on the increase as we struggle to juggle the pressures of work and family life with a constant feeling of always being ‘on’.
Through her own experience of burnout and her work as a psychotherapist, Siobhán Murray has developed a 12-week plan for overcoming this condition.
The Burnout Solution offers a step-by-step path through feelings of stress and anxiety towards renewed clarity of mind and an ability to prioritise the important things in life. Learn the beauty of saying no, rethink your boundaries, find your ‘non-negotiables’ and regain your power, passion and sense of purpose.

Story
Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Story
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

In this powerful book, happiness expert Jennifer Moss explains why burnout is so rampant - and provides simple, researched-based solutions for helping employees minimize stress and building happier workplaces. We tend to think of burnout as a problem that we can solve with self-care: more yoga, better breathing techniques, and more resilience. But evidence is mounting that applying band-aid solutions to an epic workplace phenomenon isn't enough.

Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

It's official. For the first time, the World Health Organization has classified burnout as a health problem. Renowned motivational speaker Eileen McDargh proposes that to tackle it, we must learn to break out of energy-draining thoughts and behaviors. Resilience, she argues, is strictly a matter of energy management - by better managing your energy, you can both build resiliency and overcome burnout. McDargh guides the listener through the process of identifying energy drains and implementing strategies for handling them, whatever phase of life you are in.

Story
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Just meh for me.
This just felt like a general self help book to me. There were a few good nuggets and suggestions but overall felt like the solution was presented as just “sleep more, exercise more, eat better.” And while these are important things to do for health, I just don’t feel like it fully addressed the true extent of what burnout is or how to get past it.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
