About this listen

I’m having an out-of-body experience. At least...I think. Isn’t that what it’s called when your spirit abandons you to watch - from a safe distance, with the appropriate amount of judgement - while you make questionable decisions?

Yup, one of those.

I want to shout, “Stop, Ellie, don’t do it!” But spirit me doesn’t have a voice. So I watch as she...I...we? - makes a sex contract with her...our...new boss.

This is a good time to mention the 45-minute HR meeting we sat through last month expressly forbidding this sort of thing.

In our defense, Max is ridiculously hot, and I...we may have accidentally quit.

With a sigh, I look down at the bodies pressed against the wall of the executive office.

Yup, we’re totally screwed.

The comments said one thing but I feel another way

I love this book the male narrator was so awesome. The female narrator was good also, I think she did a fantastic job. I heard her before and once you get use to her reading style she really is good. The author I ♥️ her thought process.

Decent story, but the hero is a douchebag

This author managed to weave an intriguing, page turning, character developing romance with a seriously dark anti-hero with the book "Truly". I was anxious to look for another Carmel Rhodes dark romance novel with a black heroine and found "Pretty Little Mess". I liked the heroine, Ellie, and related to her in some ways, but the hero, Max, was way too crass for me to care about (and that's saying something after reading "Truly"). It was hard for me to accept him as an intimidating businessman. It doesn't seem like he can put a filter on his fratboy mouth long enough to charm the clients he supposed to have racked up. You forget that there is a ten year age gap between the couple. I did enjoy some of Max and Ellie's banter. I also want to say that I loved that we had an older couple developing a sweet relationship towards the end. I actually would read a story about Graham and Max's mother. Overall, I enjoyed the book enough to make it through despite Lacy Laurel's annoying purring through the words and Max's immature dialogue. Kudos to Connor Crais for having clear and distinctive voices for all of the characters.

Took me a bit, but I ended up loving it!

To be honest, both the book and the narration took me a while to warm up to. The story seemed slow to me, and while both narrators did great at their own character, I didn't love how they portrayed the opposite sex. The author and narrators were new to me so I gave them a chance and kept going. And I eventually got over it, and found myself enjoying the story. A lot! I even had little tingles in my belly at some of the parts. And before I was fully on board, I have to admit, the scenes were hawt as hell!

OMG! I’m Breathless! I Loved It!

Pretty Little Mess by Carmel Rhodes Narrated by Lacy Laurel & Connor Crais

This story took me by storm and spun me around and around like the wind in The Wizard of Oz. Fortunately for me when I landed, a house wasn’t on top of me but I was breathless and wanting more.

Set in beloved NYC, the descriptions of the subways and Brooklyn had me grinning with memories. The sounds, the smells....Carmel Rhodes nailed it, she captured the hustle and bustle of that dynamic city.

Max aka P3 is a dick of the most delicious kind. Ellie is sweet a little naive but can definitely hold her own up against his ego...and thus bring him to his knees...literally.

With the back drop of finance management banking, the fashion world, throw in some cuisine and mind boggling sex its all one could hope for....at least this girl..(insert smirk emoji)

As for the narration... Wow!
Lacy Laurel & Connor Crais knocked it out the park! Gold medals for them both! They took Carmel Rhodes words & vision and infused so much life into it. I want more..much much more!

Funny, flirty, fabulous.

Pretty Little Mess speaks for itself. Rhodes, Laurel and Crais are a breath of fresh air in a time of uncertainty. Max and Ellie are a riot. Each time I thought I couldn't laugh any harder, I was proven wrong yet again. Ellie is the queen of bad choices and Max is her latest. When the heart and hormones collide, things go from bad to worse. Funny, flirty, fabulous.

Good story but....

I have to say I really liked the story, I just did not like the fact that het kept calling her piss girl and she just let him......Beside that it was a good book. I am still not a fan of Lacy voice. I feel like she talks out her nose. I don't know why but I like when she reads as the guys she sound better. I really enjoyed Connor a lot. I have to find some more books that have him in it.

Funny, Sexy, and Sweet!

This was my first Carmel Rhodes's book, and won't be my last. Ellie and Max's story, an office romance, is funny, sexy and sweet. Max is rich, handsome, alpha, and protective. Ellie is sassy, strong, independent, and determined. I love their banter, and their strong chemistry. Erin (Ellie's sister), and Jayel (Max's friend) are great supporting character. Lacy Laurel and Connor Crais did an amazing job with the narration. They are perfect as Ellie and Max, and I love their voices together. I enjoyed it!

Terrible female narrator

Wowowow. I tried, I really did. But I ended up skipping all the female narrated chapters & filling in the blanks Bc I couldn’t handle her narration. I love Connor Crais & the story was decent, but the Lacy Laurel and a deal breaker on this one.

Horrible female narrator, okay story

I really wanted to finish this, but Lacy Laurel is a horrible narrator. There was no differentiating her voices. I couldn’t tell when she was narrating thoughts or vocalizing them. I kept trying to figure out if she was speaking out loud or voicing inner thoughts. Is she speaking as herself, her sister, her friend or any other person? It was hard to listen. The only person I was able to differentiate when she narrates as them (and this was only SOMETIMES) was Max. Connor was amazing as usual, I wish he narrated the entire book, at least with him I knew who was speaking, when it was inner dialog versus vocalized ones. One ⭐️ for narration all because of Lacy Laurel, two ⭐️ ⭐️‘s for the story because I believe it was good, just half narrated horribly.
