Pirates, monsters, and a world awash in magic and musketry!
Caleb Ledger’s escape from the Myrkur and the theft of one of their sailing sloops has made him some powerful foes. Foes who’ll throw in squadrons of ships and broadsides of cannon to sink his vessel or take his crew as a prize.
And yet, Caleb’s still learning how to use his wizardly Weathermancy powers to pull victories out of certain defeats. The smartest thing would be to sail away as fast as the winds he can summon. But when he gets the opportunity to free a group of slaves from torture and death at the hands of the Myrkur, he’ll risk everything to save them.
Mythical dragons, harrowing danger, and swashbuckling adventure await those who join Caleb’s crew aboard the Spitfire.
Come aboard the continuing epic journey that you won’t want to miss!

Just like the first book, it is very stat heavy. But it still makes up for it in the details given during the fight scenes.
I was given a copy of this book to review, and personally if you liked the first book you should pick this one up as well. It does not disappoint.
Very good for a part two.

I was given a free code for an early and honest review of this audiobook. This is an excellent sequel to the first book which I also got a 5 star review from me.
Swashbuckling magic

This is the first pirate/sea based book I’ve ever read and the use of detail when it comes to the language and tools needed for running a ship really helped me feel immersed in the story! Will definitely be looking for more pirate-themed books now! I will say though, I think both of these books would have probably done best as one novel, rather than two. The split seemed unnecessary and clunky.
One, honestly minor, thing that bothered me from the start is referring to Shaw, a griffon, as a “drake.” Unless this is specific to the book’s universe then aren’t these two different races? Again, minor, but it certainly threw me off.
I will say the voice actors in this book got a lot better! It was a challenge for me to listen through the first book simply for the narration. Everyone had the same voice and intonations in every scenario. This book was a HUGE improvement and I ended it feeling impressed by the growth and I ended up really enjoying both of them!
Enjoyable, Action-Packed Read

Some authors love to heap massive piles of dung on their protagonists - they generally call this 'conflict.'
The problem is, when you make your character an underdog, there becomes a level of 'dung' that you can heap on your character that their success becomes to impossible that you've strained credulity. Instead of a thrilling tale where the underdog triumphs over evil, you have one where the enemies have to be so cartoonishly incompetent, or the protagonist so lucky, that any joy one could glean from the plot becomes meaningless and unrewarding.
That's where this book lies for me. I just became exhausted after the 50th thing went horribly wrong during their ship battle that I just gave up.
You overplayed it and it left me feeling annoyed, not thrilled.
I'm just not a fan of this kind of storytelling.
