A Disappointment For Me

What happened? Desi was so wonderful in Desdemona along with Jordan. Then we get no Jordan until the end and all Desi in her weakness. What is this? How can you wrap us up in Jordan with his running from his family, death of Ash, his reign to Princedom , and not give us more on his life, his powers, and his family. The author tried to clean it up in the end, but what a drop off. So, she's free to stop running...what now. What became of Tom? What adventures do they go on as a trio sometimes the 4 of them including Tom of course? Nothing more as this is the last book and I would say wait until it's included or just don't waste your credit or coins on this book of a whole lot of running. I'm going to see if I can get my coins back on this one, and this is the first book I've thought to do this on. 😔

Bait and switch romance novel.

The first novel raised an interesting situation. I was hoping the protagonist would continue as a low-level investigator for the lost.

I had hopes for some real noir. A Maltese Falcon narrative of betrayal and just deserts.

Instead, the femme fatale/tough girl took over the story. She became a milk sop and kept complaining about her relationships.

Not only did Ben Macallan ruin a great character, But he or she wasted my time on a romance novel.

Some people like romance novels. I detest them. I listened to the end, but would not have bought this book if I had known what it was.

Not quite what I was hoping for…

The story was good, but didn’t live up to the first for me. The narrator was very talented, but her voice didn’t match the character to me. These are very subjective observations. If you liked the first book, it’s worth continuing.

the first book was good and the narrator was good. but on this book not so much. I'm not sure if it's the narrator that is making the story boring. I have a hard time paying attention to this narrator.

It was OK

I really liked the 1st book told from Jordan’s viewpoint but in the 2nd, Desi inner narration talks too much. Too many descriptions during and in between events. I liked it nonetheless.

Lost down the rabbit hole

It wasn’t the change in POV that sunk this; it was the lack of action and interaction between the characters from book 1 for 80% of this book. This books picks up immediately after book 1 and I loved the opening. Then Desdaemona flees into a magical London Underground, which was pretty cool. But, then she flees again and it’s hours of just her on an acid trip of a journey with eels, horses, and flames that aren’t eels, horses or flames. Hours of her inner monologue and philosophical musings and confessions of how many guys she’s femme fetale-d in her instinctive hustle to survive. And all of it with a new narrator who makes Desdaemona sound like Tinkerbell. The mystery and weirdness that captivated me in book 1 lost cohesion here and, well, just plain lost me. The end also left many loose threads and unanswered questions. I would have been far more interested in a sequel starring Jordan or with Desdaemona and Jordan paired throughout the adventure.

Sad. I liked the first one...

The first book in the series was great. The writing was clever and engaging, the narration was clear, the narrator was charming. I liked it so much I bought this one.
In this book, the lovable main character disappears completely. Like, poof! Where'd he go? And she barely seems to care, just moving on to the next shmuck. And after a cliffhanger in the first book! Instead, I found myself stuck listening to the story written from the perspective of the female character.
FYI, this narrator sounds like a fifth-grader and it is super distracting. Her voice would work for a quirky character I suppose, but Desdaemona is...not. Not at all quirky. She is boring. And selfish. And kind of awful all around. I mean, she's strong and I guess she tries to do the right thing sometimes but that's the only thing I can even say about her. Why are all these men drawn to her? Sheesh. I don't get it. It's almost like it's written by a different author and this is a spin-off. Maybe the ending tied it all together but I was bored and couldn't finish. :(
