About this listen

Starting a new diet can be difficult; learning about one shouldn't be.

Paleo for Beginners: Essentials to Get Started is a comprehensive, yet concise, guide to embracing the Paleo lifestyle.

John Chatham, best-selling author of The Paleo Diet Solution and The Paleo Diet Solution Cookbook, walks readers through every step of success in a concise, easy-to-read format.

Extensively researched, Paleo for Beginners offers answers to your most pressing Paleo questions, from the basic to the more scientific.

Is the Paleo diet just another fad diet?

No, in fact it is the diet humans were designed to eat. Also known as the Primal diet, the Caveman diet, and the Stone Age diet, the Paleo diet has literally been around as long as men and women have roamed the Earth.

What is the Paleo Diet?

The low-carb, high-protein diet is a simple, healthy way to lose weight and feel better. Enjoy the best health of your life, and lose weight while preventing and treating diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and many other modern illnesses.

Is the Paleo diet healthy or will I have to starve in order to lose weight?

The Paleo diet focuses on weight loss and muscle tone through healthy eating and full-sized portions. Calorie counting, starvation, or unhealthy changes to your diet are not a part of the Paleo lifestyle.

The Paleo diet avoids processed foods that can be difficult for the body digest and contain unhealthy chemicals and additives.

The only diet that helps you to lose weight while enjoying full, healthy meals, the Paleo diet has been proven by the medical community to help treat and prevent many of our modern health maladies.

Why postpone losing weight, feeling healthy and increasing energy one more day?

  • The 7-day step-by-step preparation plan puts you on a path to successfully make the transition to the Paleo lifestyle.
  • Set yourself up for success with the grocery shopping guide and a list of 117 Paleo-recommended foods (and a comprehensive list of what food items you should avoid).
  • Twenty-one healthy recipes offer meal ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and the snacks in between.
  • Grain-free alternatives to your favorite foods include Eggs Benedict Paleo Style, High-Protein Grain-Free Burgers, Chicken Avocado Wraps, and Paleo Waffles.

I enjoyed the book overall. that being said. I am an exercise physiologist, and when they were talking about body composition they mentioned use a bmi calculator to estimate body fat percentage. This is a highly inaccurate assessment that almost always is incorrect. It uses your entire mass including bone mineral density as well as your organ tissue and muscle tissue from your weight to guess you body fat without separating them, so it counts muscle as fat. almost every body builder and CrossFit athlete is classified as obese using this model. you would be better off doing a simple skin fold assessment at the 3 main sites for your sex to estimate body fat.

Sounds like an expensive way of eating

My husband and I went on ATkins last year but have kind of strayed a bit.. I've seen recipes for Paleo on pinterest that looked delicious, so thought I'd find out more about the diet..

I really wasn't impressed... The diet restricts too many foods, does not include any sweetener other than honey (my husband is a diabetic and isn't suppose to eat honey) and you're suppose to eat grass fed beef, wild meats, organic fruits and veggies, free range eggs, etc... That would be very expensive to purchase in our area, if we could even find them...

While I agree that processed foods are horrible on the body, I think this diet is too restrictive to be enjoyable.. Many of things that are no no's are things we can eat on Atkins.. I think eating only the foods allowed on this diet would become very boring very fast..

I listened to about 3/4 of the book but ended up turning it off because quite frankly, it was pretty boring.. I didn't feel motivated in the least from what I listened to...

Back to Atkins for us...

Lets Over-Complicate a Simple Concept

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you are into lists, steps, caveats, structure, and regimentation, this book is for you! If your not, this book will turn you off to the whole concept of the Paleo-lifestyle. It is much simpler than the author makes it out to be. Cave men didn't have lists, steps, caveats and all the structure this book tries to use to impose on this concept. This is an easy way to eat and live and other books will show you how.

What could John Chatham have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not impose a ridgid program of structure around this concept...

What didn’t you like about Kevin Pierce’s performance?

Lack of emotion

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It is great for anyone who loves a rigid structure to guide them through something like eating properly.
