About this listen
A gruesome display of corpses on the frozen Thames spells doom for Mycroft Holmes. Scotland Yard singles him out as the main suspect of a series of violent crimes because they're all connected by a single thread: Mycroft's name.
As public attention rises, he fights to avert any danger to his family and the Secret Service. To capture the culprit, Mycroft has to face an exceedingly uncomfortable truth about himself, which puts not only his career but his very life into question.

On the eve of Newgate Prison's demolition, Watson spies Holmes leaving a public sale of the prison's miscellany in the company of a beautiful stranger, and in possession of an unusual trophy–the death mask of a woman who, more than 20 years earlier, had been executed for the murder of her three children. Holmes agrees to satisfy Watson's curiosity about the memento by recounting the decades-old history of its subject.

Story
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson are summoned to Theobald Grange, the Warwickshire home of Lady Heminworth. Being of a nervous and superstitious disposition, her Ladyship lives in fear. Her husband and elder son were recently murdered, apparently by the ghost of a court jester who was executed on the site centuries before. The apparition has warned that she, too, is to die. Holmes rejects a supernatural explanation, although his adversary seems unaffected by gunfire and is able to take flight and disappear.

Story
London, 1890. The city is ruled by the nobility and the Watch, or so it seems. When an underground organization pursues the alchemical formula to create a soul, bodies begin to pile up, and important figures begin to go missing. Masked men turn the gears of fate, pushing London into a new era where artificial life is only the beginning. Arhyen is the self-declared finest thief in London. The mission was simple. Steal a journal from Fairfax Breckinridge, one of the greatest alchemists of the time. He hadn't expected to find Fairfax himself, with a dagger in his back.

Story
The orphaned Elsie Camden learned as a girl that there were two kinds of wizards in the world: those who pay for the power to cast spells and those, like her, born with the ability to break them. But as an unlicensed magic user, her gift is a crime. Commissioned by an underground group known as the Cowls, Elsie uses her spellbreaking to push back against the aristocrats and help the common man. Elite magic user Bacchus Kelsey is one elusive spell away from his mastership when he catches Elsie breaking an enchantment. To protect her secret, Elsie strikes a bargain.

IT WAS DIFFERENT. THA'S FOR SURE.
First I really like the narration and the narrator. Second, I like that the story focuses on Mycroft and that Sherlock and Dr. Watson are peripheral players. The regular characters are present like Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson but the real story is about the personal and professional life of the eldest Holmes brother.

Don’t waist your time on this read
The idea of the book was good, making Mycroft the main character, but after the beginning of the book it went down hill. This narrator voice was almost the same for Mycroft and Sherlock. His deliberate speech was grating so I would not recommend this book.
