Electra McDonnell has always known that the way she and her family earn their living is slightly outside of the law. So when Uncle Mick receives a tip about a safe full of jewels in the empty house of a wealthy family, he and Ellie can’t resist. All goes as planned - until the pair are caught red-handed. Ellie expects them to be taken straight to prison, but instead they are delivered to a large townhouse, where government official Major Ramsey is waiting with an offer: Either Ellie agrees to help him break into a safe and retrieve blueprints that will be critical to the British war effort, before they can be delivered to a German spy, or he turns her over to the police.

Ellie doesn’t care for the major's imperious manner, but she has no choice, and besides, she's eager to do her bit for king and country. She may be a thief, but she's no coward. When she and the major break into the house in question, they find instead the purported German spy dead on the floor, the safe already open and empty. Soon, Ellie and Major Ramsey are forced to put aside their differences to unmask the double-agent, as they try to stop allied plans from falling into German hands.

Light and fun with a splash of romance

I loved every minute of reading this book. I found myself laughing outloud and absolutely loved the detailed descriptions that put me right in the story. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel!

Fast, easy listen

I enjoyed this novel of intrigue during WWII with Ellie helping the British war effort by using her safe-cracking skills after getting caught using her skills for dishonest reasons. I liked the possibilities for romance & her developing backstory so much that I’ll probably have to look for a sequel.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Good story, plot, characters, and narration. A bright take about a dark period in our history.

A Good Ride

What I thought at first was going to be a somewhat fluffy story about a petty thief turned into a pretty good spy story set in one of my favorite eras and places, World War II England. The female protagonist shows her strength throughout. A fun read, and I'll check out others in the series.

Love, love the main female character

The female character is very intelligent, a go getter. Not afraid to speak her mind and help her companions of their arrow minds.

What a fun adventure!

This spy story was a fun one! The perfect palette cleanser after reading several heavier books. Electra is plucky and endearing. I will definitely continue this series!

This novel is a fun twist on the many historical fiction true crime novels set during WWII! I had fun “central casting” these characters from old 40’s movies. I’m already listening to the second novel now!!

A unique and intriguing story

A WWII spy story with an unusual twist and interesting,appealing characters without being too grim. I will definitely follow the sequel.
