Story
It was a name that caused the most hardened gunmen to break out in a cold sweat: Texas Ranger Chick Bowdrie. Pursuing the most wanted men in the Southwest, he knew all too well the dusty trails, the bitter cattle feuds, the desperate killers, and the quiet, weather-beaten towns that could explode into mayhem with the wrong word. He had sworn to carry out the law, but there were times when he had to apply justice with his fists and his guns.

Lawman, manhunter, peacemaker - it takes a hard breed of man to survive as a Texas Ranger, but Chick Bowdrie stands head and shoulders above the rest. The rough trails are his home, from the Big Thicket to the Pecos to the border. He's dried by the desert sun and wind, scarred and toughened by uncounted gun battles, and when you look into his black eyes, it's like looking down the barrels of two .44s with their hammers drawn back. He rides in the name of justice, but he lives by his own law - Bowdrie's Law. And if you're thinking about walking on the wrong side of Bowdrie's Law, you'd better start running. Fast.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
They said write what you know so that's what I did. I wrote dirty, I wrote erotic, I wrote the truth. And then they called me a liar. But it's not me who's lying, it's them. Our story isn't for everyone. It's not even for us. So if you're looking for the fairy tale and the stupid prince on his dumb white horse, move along. You've got a hold of the wrong book. This is not your story, this is not your life, and this is not your opportunity to dip your frightened little toe into the dark pool of water and "try new things" and then pull it out and decide... #NotForMe.

Louis L'Amour is now one of the most iconic Western writers of all time, but once upon a time he was Jim Mayo, a regular writer for the pulps. Some of the tales he wrote in those days stuck with him enough that he later revised and expanded them into novels. But there was a special magic to the originals, and after research and restoration, these stories appear here now in their original form.

In "The Sixth Shotgun", Leo Carver has been sentenced to hang for holding up a stage, killing the driver and the guard, and stealing the gold they were transporting. In Riders of the Dawn, a young gunslinger is changed for the better by a meeting with a beautiful woman. A classic range-war western, this novel features that powerful, romantic, strangely compelling vision of the American West for which L'Amour's fiction is known. In the author's words: "It was a land where nothing was small, nothing was simple. Everything, the lives of men and the stories they told, ran to extremes."

Awful Narration of Wonderful Stories
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Listening to Louis L'Amour stories is always time well spent. Unfortunately listening to Christopher Crennen narrate these wonderful stories served as Lenten penance.
What did you like best about this story?
Louis L'Amour's stories are always filled with characters brought vividly to life in exceptional circumstances.
Would you be willing to try another one of Christopher Crennen’s performances?
As a listener of over 100 Westerns in my audible.com Library I will from now on look for Christopher Crennen as a narrator and avoid those titles. What a shame to miss good stories, but Crennen is just too tough to listen to. He offers a continuous monotone narrative and appears to be someone with no familiarity with the West. The last straw for me was when he pronounced fracas, pronounced with a long
Did Louis L'Amour Collection One inspire you to do anything?
Listening to Louis L'Amour Collection One inspired me to look for more of his great stories, but definitely with a narrator other than Christopher Crennen.
