About this listen

More than any writer before or since, Louis L'Amour brought the American West to life. His action-packed stories deal with eternal themes: honor, deceit, passion, betrayal, loyalty, courage, love. His settings are historically accurate, his prose riveting, and his characters colorful: good guys, bad guys, toughs, roughs, sidekicks, and saints.

Trail Mix: Volume One gathers together three popular Louis L'Amour stories, most performed by Willie Nelson. "Riding for the Brand" features Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings in a fully dramatized performance.

  • "Riding for the Brand"
  • "The Black Rock Coffin Makers"
  • "Dutchman's Flat"

    Tales of the West

This was my first taste of L'amour's writing, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but I found myself thoroughly hooked on the characters and stories of the old West. Willie Nelson's warm and folksy narration in particular was a good fit. I'm looking forward to the stories in Volume 2.

    really fun drama

Of course the L'Mour stories are great. I really loved Willie's narration and the various actors, especially Johnny Cash -- an old familiar voice. Thanks for so much fun.

Worst ever..i love willie but he reads like i sing

Wille READS the story like he left his car double parked when he went into the studio to record this book. No real touch or crustyness like you would expect from a star like him. I wouldnt say it was a total waste , it DID remind me of my grade school days when the teacher made the worst reader in the class get up and read in front of everybody. Hey willie if you read this....i love everything you do, thats why i bought this book...but give it up..buy a few audiobooks narrated by Keith Carradine and learn how real western fans like to listen to their stories.
