About this listen

The marshal's name was Borden Chantry. Young, lean, rugged, he's buried a few men in this two-bit cow town - every single one killed in a fair fight. Then, one dark, grim day a mysterious gunman shot a man in cold blood. Five grisly murders later, Chantey was faced with the roughest assignment of his life - find that savage, trigger-happy hard case before he blasts apart every man in town...one by bloody one.

This is one of my favorite Louis L'Amour books, and he is an awesome storyteller! Good values, easy listen, just all around entertainment, with a few good morals and some good information thrown into boot. Eric singer does a wonderful job on the narration. I could listen to him read all day long.

You can never go wrong with Louis L'Amour!

You fooled me. I was looking for a Western Gunfighter book, and you roped me into a Murder Mystery. I still listened in its entirety, and I was still thoroughly entertained. However, I do not like Murder Mysteries, even if they are very well written. This was a good book. 5 stars all day.

Border Chantry - Louis L'Amore

Borden Chantry is at it's center a classic tale of white hats vs. black hats, good vs. evil, the tried, true, and reliable reliable plot outline that ìs the foundation of the Western genre.

However, this is a Louis L'Amour story so there is always more to the story than just another well worn and plodded path of the long in the tooth and far over burdened tropes which fill the pages and plot lines of most of offerings wearing thr Western genre brand. If you know a bit about the author you know every story he writes contains a broad smattering of facts, locations, names, dates, events, and other historical and even first hand personal experience knowledge from years of travel, reasearch, and "Yondering" by the author himself. Also, as in this book, you are likely to find inclusions of the use of other genres of material for or in which the author had an interest or enjoyed and may have even written and published works in those other genres.

These details all are to be found within the pages of Borden Chantry. It includes and encompasses them all. It is a Western, a Mystery, a Thriller/Suspense, and even a light study in the nature and phsychology of mankind. It includes references to historical facts, and people, places, and events that actually existed and happened. It is not a Historical Fiction story per the definition of the genre but it is Fiction which is peppered full of fragments of true history and information. This book is Louis L'Amour giving his readers the type of Western that made him the not only the beloved and prolific author that he was but clearly demonstrates his mastery of his chosen craft. This is a Master Storyteller at work.

A good read & Louis L'Amour at a glance.

This was a well-written, well-performed and a great story. It’s the first in the Borden Chantry series. Can’t wait to listen to the next one!

Great Story

Action a little slow at times, but still enjoyable. Like stories about Chantry and Sackett.
