About this listen
The secret to complete human understanding and world peace may be as close as the ocean....
It's a technology with infinite possibilities. DJ Parker, billionaire developer of a proprietary artificial intelligence program, is on the cusp of cracking the miracle code that can usher in a new age of human progress. Amazingly, the technology is ancient, held by a group of beings that have been around for 50 million years: cetacea - species of aquatic mammals including killer whales. But Parker quickly learns he has dangerous enemies including a Russian conglomerate tied to the Kremlin which is seeking the research for its own nefarious purposes - and which will stop at nothing to get it. With DJ's life in danger and the forces of evil seemingly everywhere, the fate of humankind is up for grabs.
A philosophical thriller, Lost Frequency confronts animal rights, human nature, artificial intelligence, and the perils of technology turned loose.

Story
It is the smallest of anomalies. A tiny error lurking in Bob Ludlow’s DNA that could have untold consequences for civilization. Dr. Barry Gifford hopes that understanding this genetic error could provide revolutionary advances for humanity. Bob believes in Barry and his vision for the future. The two men team up to solve the mystery of Bob’s genetics and to develop a drug based on this inborn error. Unfortunately, in the cutthroat world of medical research, altruism doesn’t always take precedence over money or ego. Dr. Dexter Brunswick, a bitter man with a tough past, is strangely jealous of Barry’s accomplishments. Yet he needs Barry’s research to unlock the treasures hidden in Bob’s genetic code. Unlike Barry’s noble intentions, Brunswick’s plans are more sinister.

In Jasper Fforde's Great Britain, circa 1985, time travel is routine, cloning is a reality (dodos are the resurrected pet of choice), and literature is taken very, very seriously. England is a virtual police state where an aunt can get lost (literally) in a Wordsworth poem and forging Byronic verse is a punishable offense. All this is business as usual for Thursday Next, renowned Special Operative in literary detection.

A worthwhile thought provoking story
What an exception book!
It is a perfect combination of everything great in a story. A beautiful balance of human and orca whale intelligence, combined with mystery and humor and the occasional unexpected twist. Easy listening, with a decent handful of thought provoking ideas and a few out loud laughs.
I do not ever write reviews, however this book deserves every great review it gets!

An exciting journey based on factual reality of the SRKW. Loved it!
Such a wonderful escape to the Salish Sea and highlight of the magnificent endangered SRKW. I love how the author addresses the factual reality of their situation and sad history of being stolen from their home and amplifies their sentience, intelligence, empathy and support of each other. While fictional liberties were taken for a great story- we KNOW these beautiful animals are extremely intelligent and communicate and express feelings to each other each and every day. I call myself an “orcaholic” and especially appreciate the note from the author at the end. I hope people will continue to educate themselves about the plight of the orcas- particularly the SRKW and what we as humans can do to help them. I think Mr. Swanson should pitch this book for a movie. I could truly envision it with each page and how great it would be to be able to draw as much attention to these orcas as possible. Loved it!

Fascinating Concept
This is my first taste of a philosophical thriller, and I have to say it was very tastefully done. The focus on orca whales and the clash of their intelligence with human intelligence made for a unique read. While I hadn’t imagined there would be, there is plenty of action and mystery within the pages of this book.
Definitely worth it if you’re looking for something different and thought-provoking.

High energy and fast paced
Parker is a developer of a new type of artificial intelligence. It is set to turn the world on its ear. Then his dad dies and Parker has to go home. This is something he has not done for a very long time. Parker and his dad did not see eye to eye. His dad owned amusement parks which kept whales on display and Parker did not agree with this practice. They actually had not spoken in quite a long time.
After his dad’s death, Parker learns the amusement parks are to be sold, underhandedly I might add…to Russia no less! While all of this is occurring, Parker is steadily trying to learn more about how whales communicate. His artificial intelligence is actually helping with this. Plus, Parker’s autistic brother seems to have a lot of insight into this phenomenon. How? It is a mystery to all involved. And everyone is racing to find out.
There is a lot going on in this tale. It is action packed. With murders and mysterious circumstances…what is not to love! Plus I loved the science in this book….yes I am a nerd! This is very well researched and I definitely learned a tremendous amount about whales.
Super good, high energy read! DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!

A Fascinating, Intriguing, Beautiful Story
Beautifully conceived and well written, Lost Frequency is as exciting and cerebral as it is heartfelt. Masterfully narrated by BJ Harrison. I thought during the first few minutes that he might have been a mismatch for the story, but his outstanding voices and dialogue performances brought the characters spectacularly to life.

Swanson's passion shines through in this thriller.
An enjoyable book combining the beauty of nature with the edge of a techno-thriller.
DJ Parker was on top of his game. Owner and CEO of a multi-billion dollar software company, he was about to release new technology that would see his star rise even further. He was on the verge of releasing a new bio-metric system with AI technology that would be completely game changing.
Shortly before the official release, DJ receives news that his father James has passed away. DJ had been estranged from his father for some time, due to philosophical differences in his father's work - Marine entertainment parks featuring live Orcas, also known as killer whales.
While attending to his father's estate, DJ learns that the gap in their differences was narrowing during their estrangement, and his father was conducting research hoping to prove the intelligence of these gentle sea creatures. Not only did the research have the potential to affect the future of marine parks, it had some results that could be applied to DJ's new technology. The effects of combining his father's work and his own, had the potential to change the way humans live and connect on a global scale. But a Russian group with ties to the Kremlin is willing to do anything to get this technology and twist it to their own nefarious goals.
The one thing that really stands out in this book, is the author's love and passion for Orcas and the preservation of their habitat. By creating a work of fiction around a subject he is passionate about, he has written a book that is at once entertaining and educating. I learned a fair bit about the Southern Resident Killer whales - their habitat, social structure, diet preferences, all the while being entertained. If seeing these magnificent creatures hadn't been on my bucket list before, it would be now.
The narration for this audiobook was performed by B.J. Harrison. His voice was clear, and he read with a pleasant tone and cadence. His character range made it easy to follow the story.
All said, an enjoyable story that makes me long to be by the ocean.
