About this listen

In Deadly Night Shade, Cynthia Riggs introduced Victoria Trumbull, one of the most energetic amateur sleuths on record, notwithstanding her 92 years, or possibly because of them. Now, Cynthia Riggs gives us the story of her first case and how she came to be a police deputy.

A little island town is the scene of a conflict between two men of God: the outgoing minister of the local church and his successor, each known as Jack. But Victoria is concerned with a series of unexpected deaths, which turn out to be the result of anonymous food packages left on people's doorsteps. Victoria's get-up-and-go attitude, her courage, and her exhaustive knowledge of Martha's Vineyard and its people once again help her to discover the truth behind the mystery.

Best one so far

Full of back story told in an a engrossing manner. I love Victoria. I always enjoy a character with clay feet. Having a woman who is 92 as the main character is refreshing. The 3 central women, Victoria, Elizabeth, and Casey provides the reader with various lenses to view the different situations. on to the next book!

Very interesting next chapter in Martha's Vineyard

The folks of Martha's Vineyard once again have some murders to solve and there are ends and outs in much Intrigue and it's all done with complete involvement by the reader.

Engaging

This was a pleasant listening experience. It was light, slightly complex, and the listener was satisfied with a conclusion.

Twists turns and multiple suspects.

I loved it I didn't want to put it down. the narrator was excellent. I thought she brought authenticity to all of the characters. the plot had so many twists and turns I thought I was on a twisty mountain road. I loved the feisty nonagenarian.

sharp

what a mind for a nintytwo year old. I love the way the several possible suspects and then the nintytwo year old solved the mystery.

Witty, Wise and Ninety-Two 👵

The fourth in the Martha's Vineyard Mysteries finds a series of the older folks dying off in unexplained ways. And resident, Victoria Trumbull is wondering why. It seems that many of the townsfolk are receiving gifts of food left at their doorsteps . . . a thing not too unusual for the small community, which is filled with kind neighbors, but as of late it seems to have led to unexpected deaths. Spry and curious, and not a bit addle minded, ninety-two year old Victoria Trumbull is bound and determined to get to the root of the problem. She discovers plenty of secrets that many would just as soon leave in the dark, but it will take a bit more digging to find who is behind the deaths. This is such a fun series, filled with wit and wisdom and all the foibles of the human condition, which Victoria is so good at unearthing. 😂 And in the end, as always, Victoria's amateur sleuthing leads to the killer, to everyone's surprise.

great humor

I really have been enjoying these Cynthia Riggs books. The stories are really very good and I enjoy the humor in them. The characters are really so interesting and they displayed that New England humor. I like the way the area is described. I could almost feel the wet leaves on my head, and around me, hiding in the brush. The narration by Davina Porter is exactly right.
