Publisher's summary

Two sisters climbing the ranks of Dublin’s criminal justice system. A murder case that could change their lives forever. The Sisters is a gripping new thriller from one of the most exciting voices in crime fiction.

In this prequel to the international best seller The Ruin, set 10 years prior, bright-eyed Carrie Ryan is at the very start of her career. When she has a hunch about an ongoing murder investigation, she knows it could be her only chance to prove herself and truly break into the “boys' club” of Dublin’s police force.

Carrie uncovers this make-or-break moment in a case file that her sister Aifric, a newly qualified barrister, leaves on their kitchen counter: Robert Collins has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend after a fight in a local pub. All signs point toward a guilty verdict, but both sisters quickly begin to find evidence that complicates the story. All the while, Carrie is very aware that she’s crossed the line—if the detective sergeant running the investigation finds out she’s been messing around with his case, her career will be over before it has begun. Aoife McMahon lends her authentic accent and her knowledge of the series’ characters, delivering a powerful performance that heightens the drama with every twist and turn.

Please note: This audio contains strong language, distressing situations, and descriptions of violence that some listeners may find upsetting. Discretion is advised.

Missing something

The story pulled me in rather quickly, but in the end, it felt like they tried to wrap it up too soon. It begins getting you invested in Afric’s story, then switches to Carrie and pretty much leaves you hanging on Afric.

Would have been better with one more chapter

Also, I wish the author could have found some more creative interjections than using “god” and “Jesus” over and over. Many find this offensive.

Better than I expected!

Great story, very well performed. Keeps you listening until the end, to discover the answer to the mystery.

it was lacking

it wasnt bad but it seemed more like a skim of a story than an actual story. the characters weren't developed enough and the story like was good but it was too fast.

Exceptional performance, BUT

every man in the story is sexist scum that only wants to exploit women, and every woman is a bold strong heroine. Feministic drivel, not even remotely based in reality. I can see why this is free.

Great book

Good character development of the 2sisters
Hope author will or already has featured them in other stories

I did guess the ending; it would have been hard not to because book was so short so there weren’t many options but it didn’t ruin the story for me

What an exceptional little book.

This is how to do a prequel properly. I know, because I haven't read any of the other books in this series, and yet I was fully invested and didn't ever get the feeling something was missing; Some crucial context. I can't wait to dig in to the series proper.

Good short story

I liked the narration. The story was good, but a few times my attention was swayed elsewhere and I didn't care to rewind it. I'm not sure I heard the whole thing, but I know how it began and ended.

started off great...

ended really badly. It's like the last half got chopped down then the writer had to make everyone stupid in order to finish the book. really disappointing. a lot of potential here

Nice but Lacking...

Nice, basic storyline. It is well put together but character development is modest and the plot lacks any real suspense. Worth a listen if free through the originals program or if you are into ‘girl power’ stories.

I enjoyed this

I don't know if it is part of a series or whether it will be---but this is a poignant book. It's memorable for the portrayal of the sisters, an aching ambivalence with a lot of love.
