Story
This sixth Spookie Town Murder Mystery belongs primarily to Abigail and Frank Lester, my two main characters in the six book series. It’s their turn. First off, it at long last solves the enigma of Abigail’s first husband Joel Sutton’s disappearance, and death, a decade before…the tragic event that sent Abigail to Spookie in the first place to begin a new life. The new life that would grow so big as to include a new love, a new family, quirky, but well-meaning friends, and the strange murder mysteries her new friends would drag her into over the years.

I don't understand all of the mediocre reviews on this book. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope there are more in this series. My only complaint is the reader. While she isn't horrible, I liked the earlier reader much better.

Story
James Henry, a kind-hearted professor of English literature, is forced to move back home to Quincy's Gap, a tiny town in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, to care for his aging father. Shortly after moving into a house that hasn't changed since his childhood, the overweight, divorced, book-loving cheese puff addict accepts a position as head librarian and joins a supper club for dieters who call themselves the "Flab Five". Avoiding carbs is almost impossible in this deep-fried, all-you-can-eat Southern town.

Reviewed: 09-18-19
I can't tell you if the overall storyline is good or not because even after forcing myself through 6 chapters, I couldn't follow the storyline because of the bad narration. Redo the book with a better narrator and I'll try it again.

While the storyline is good, the character development is 4 stars. I liked the way he compared the accidental death of his brother, who I wish I could have known a little more, the friendship with his murdered friend could and should have been introduced a little more, imo. I also wished I had kown in the beginning chapters why he was an ex-con until waiting until the middle of the book. Other than that and wishing the narrator hadn't sounded so bored, it was overall not a bad read.

I was looking forward to this book because it sounded fun and interesting. It's not horrible, but I was somewhat disappointed, it seems to be lacking in some areas. I wanted more drama, maybe. The narrator is okay but very breathy and in the last chapter there were some audio issues where they did a retake on the production and phrases were repeated.
