About this listen
You’ve done your research, your gut’s telling you to go, and you’ve finally made your decision: you’re moving to a foreign country. It all sounds wonderful except for one, minor detail. You’re an introvert.
Now, the idea of living in a foreign country, speaking a foreign language, socializing with complete strangers (in another language!), and navigating all the cultural nuances of a new place are really freaking you out.
But whatever you do, do not refund your ticket. Instead, pick up this audiobook and realize that you’re going to be just fine.
In fact, it’s going to be better than that. You’re going to thrive as an introverted expat. But here’s the thing. It won’t happen overnight. You’re going to need some tips, tricks, and strategies. You’re also going to need a good understanding of who you are and what it really means to be an introvert.
And that’s what this audiobook covers, along with these key points:
- What an introvert is and isn’t
- Seven essential characteristics of an introvert
- Why being an introvert is your biggest asset while living abroad
- What to pack to create the best home, aka recharge station
- How to identify your stressors and triggers before you leave
- How to cope with isolation, loneliness, depression and overwhelm in your foreign country
- Networking tips and more!
Listen to Introverted Expat today!
About the expert: Marie Therese Batt has traveled the world, and knows the ins and outs of thriving as an introverted expat. When she was 20, she bought a one-way ticket to Germany, where she completed her bachelor degree, made wonderful friendships, and fell in love with freshly baked breads. Her latest move? A transatlantic leap to Italy, where she’s spent the last two years learning Italian, attending University and eating with the locals at little trattorias.

Story
The “mountain men” were the hunters and trappers who fiercely strode the Rocky Mountains in the early to mid-1800s. They braved the elements in search of the skins of beavers and other wild animals, to sell or barter for goods. The lifestyle of the mountain men could be harsh, existing as they did among animals, and spending most of their days and nights living and camping out in the great unexplored wilds of the Rockies.

Story
Thoreau gives an account of three canoe and hiking journeys - by himself and with others - through the mostly uninhabited forests of Maine in the 1850s. Identifying birds, trees and plants by their botanical as well as their common names, he also records the Indian names of lakes, rivers and plants. He investigates the connections between waterways and trails, and provides detail on camping, fishing and hunting in the woods, using whatever is at hand. Extolling the beauty of the wilds that he encounters, Thorough’s narrative is also imbued with elements of his philosophy.

Story
Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. Mary assumed duties as the island’s district nurse.

A few helpful tips but a big over-reach
This book is more a saccharin Stuart Smiley self-help book than a book about being an introverted expat. There are very few tidbits of actionable information. Good audio quality and narration. Maybe worth it for the few tidbits, but I found myself fast-forwarding through 90% of the tedious and unqualified advice.

Great positive support for introverts
This is great and positive and mostly stays away from labels, as it keeps reminding you of the uniqueness of everyone.
The narrator has a very positive tone.
Great for all people with some introverted qualities, not just expats.
