About this listen

Charlie and Diesel must catch a killer before he strikes another deadly note in this latest installment of the New York Times bestselling Cat in the Stacks Mysteries.

Charlie Harris remembers Wilfred "Wil" Threadgill as one of the outsiders during high school in Athena. Although Wil was a couple of years ahead of him and his friend Melba Gilley, Melba had a big crush on Wil who dropped out after his junior year. An aspiring musician, Wil hit the road for California and never looked back. Wil eventually became a star, fronting a band and writing award-winning songs.

Coming back to Athena to work for two weeks with students in the college music department, Wil is now the big man on campus. Not everyone is happy to have him back, however. Some are protesting his music on moral grounds, and Wil and his entourage have been the target of several acts of petty harassment. At first they're easy for Wil to shrug off, but the incidents escalate and become more troubling. When one of the band members is killed Charlie worries that Melba, now deeply involved with the man at the center of the attacks, could be in deadly danger. It's up to Charlie and Diesel to find out who hates Wil Threadgill enough to silence his song . . . forever!

Loved it

As usual, the narrator was wonderful. The story was well written and keeps you guessing til the end. Love the food and family inbetween. I have read all the books in this series and each one gets better and better.

Much Better Than Careless Whiskers

After Careless Whiskers I wasn’t sure I’d read another of this series but it’s back to the past quality of enjoyment I loved in previous installments.

Love this Series

I've enjoyed this series, I recommend it to anyone who likes clean, cozy murder mysteries.
I am disappointed I can't buy the Decote Sisters series, but I just can not listen to the narrator who reads those books.
They should have used the narrator who read this series. The narrator who performs this series is excellent. I'll be eagerly awaiting for Charlie and Diesel's next adventure.

Good cosy mystery as always

Love the narrator and the cat. Although I did figure out who was the villain it did keep my interest.

Another excellent Story from Miranda James

I loved this book; it is well written, has a believable story, and has great characters that come to life thanks to the incredible narrator, Erin Bennett. I look forward to the next book!

One of my favorite series

This is one of my favorite series. I have not read the books in any kind of order and it hasn't diminished my enjoyment one bit. I want to be friends with Charlie and Diesel, the whole household. I think this outing was a bit more busy than usual. Charlie is definitely distracted but it's understandable. He's asked to help someone from his past. His friend Mabel is in a dither. His family is in a bit of an uproar. Charlie wants to help everyone and he wants to do right by his family and fiancee and stay out of the investigation of the suspicious deaths, but his natural curiousity and the pleading of his dearest friend urge him on.
I would have liked to see the Ducote sisters. I like them quite a lot and they were only mentioned in passing.
I am usually tired of a series when it's this far in but Miranda James [aka Dean James] has a way with a story and characters, making the reader care what happens to each one, the good and the bad. I'm in it for the characters as much as I am for the mystery that will be almost the centerpiece. I enjoyed listening to this though it took me a minute to acclimate to the narrator. But only a minute and Erin Bennett is perfect for this.
I can definitely recommend this book, this series and this author.

A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO THIS SERIES❣️

Charlie, Diesel, Ramses and all of the other much loved characters in this series are back in this book, “Hiss Me Deadly.” I have loved every single book in this series and was SO sad when I read the last book — I felt like I was moving far, far away and leaving all my friends behind. On a whim, I looked up Miranda James in the Audible library and felt like Christmas had come early when I found a new book in the series that I had not yet read.

I’m not going to recap the whole story (you can read about it under the “Title Details” section), but I will say the plot was excellent. I didn’t figure out who the killer was until about 3/4 of the way through the book…then I had to wait until almost the end to find out if my guess was right.

I so enjoyed spending time again with the wonderful DIESEL! I wish I had a Diesel of my very own! Once Charlie started speaking in his soft drawl, I was transported right back to Athena, MS. It was as if I had never left…

Thank you Ms. James for not writing Charlie’s character as having a heavy, twangy accent — I never would have made it through the series if that had been the case!

As always, the narrator, the FABULOUSLY talented Erin Bennett, brings the soft spoken Charlie to life as no one else ever could (as well as all the other characters)!

Ms. James, thank you for hours and HOURS of great entertainment with Charlie and Diesel❣️ PLEASE,🙏 be hard at work on your next wonderful novel!!! And please, in your next novel, MORE RAMSES❣️

I am not ashamed to say that I am a recovering “Crazy Cat Woman,” (I have just six now); you could write a book entirely told from the slightly sarcastic point of view of Diesel and Ramses and I would be THRILLED!

XO
