About this listen

"It isn’t easy to write a protagonist that blends the best qualities of Anita Blake and Stephanie Plum, but Kim Harrison carries it off with style. This is a fun book! Read it!" (Jim Butcher, number one New York Times best-selling author)

In the Hollows, the vampires come out to play...and it’s always witching hour.

The first book in number one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison’s Hollows series!

All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party...and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining - and it’s Rachel Morgan’s job to keep that world civilized.

A bounty hunter and a witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she’ll bring ’em back alive, dead...or undead.

Fun Story Ok Narration

This series comes highly recommended, so I gave it a shot. The story was entertaining, and the characters were interesting. The narration wasn't bad, it just wasn't my favorite. The narrator sounded a little like she was reading most of the time, instead of bringing me into the story.

I'd still recommend giving it a try and I'm going to try book 2, just to see if I get into it a little more. There's so many people that rave about this series, so I'm going to try another book to see what the fuss is about.

great series

I ran across this series again and was glad as I listened to it on CD the first time years ago. If I were to say anything it's that this first book in the series started slow to me.

Awesome characters! Wonderful narration!

Great interesting story, intriguing and flawed but lovable characters, and the narrator is amazing with her character voices and reading. She puts the characters personality in the narration so well. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

beautifully done

I loved it all the way around. the book. the narrator. all of it was epicly done. I loved the way the narrator changed her voice with the characters. I think she did Ivy, Jinks and Trent perfectly as far as her changing her voice. I can't wait to hear more!

I think it's me

I read this series a long time ago (a decade) and I remember it being my favorite series. So I downloaded and listened and.... Rachel is cringey. I still enjoyed the book but I think I got old. I find her overreaction to things really annoying and immature. Still a very good story. Just not as amazing as I remembered. I am going to listen to the next one and see if Rachel matures. That would definitely help.

3.5 overall but I listened to it all

I agree with other reviews that said the main character is whiny and silly at times. I could forgive that but the constant irrational jumping into one deadly grip after another was making it hard to get through. This first book was building a team to use in follow-on books but she did little, except for the gift to the pixies, to justify them having that much allegiance. I will try a later book to see if there is improvement.
