I’ll be interested to see where LKH takes this

If I’m understanding the PR for the book, it’s a promising start to a new series. I’m a big Anita Blake fan but some of the books are highly wordy with low action. The books with more action are absolutely top notch.
Loved LKH’s Meredith Gentry books but felt she and her children were left in a more precarious situation with the murder of Sholto in the last book.
I found this specific book to be interesting but not fast paced. A few times the story created a sense of urgency but then felt like it went into s-l-o-w motion. I was ready to slap Z when he had to be told 6(?) times to call Ravensong immediately about the raccoon animal totem.

Graham’s voice is not my favorite- higher range voices grate on me like nails on a chalkboard. I eventually got used to it as the story progressed, but I don’t believe he added to the story. Listened at 1.3 speed.

I’m torn but have hope

Never read anything by author. I thought the subject matter was so cool sounding and a series! Nice. Several things wrong. Mostly the narrator. Has he ever read a book in his life? Ever read one out loud? Does he understand the importance of continuity? Voice changing of the same character. Odd voices once, normal the next. I liked the story, I liked the characters. I did laugh out loud a few times and screamed at the radio in my car too.

I hope to be able to continue with the series.

Not Bad

Some reviewers say that they couldn’t tell where the story is going. I actually like a little bit of that. I like to be surprised. It has a similar feel to the author’s Anita Blake series. I love that series, so to me it’s a good thing. I think this new series is just getting started and I’m very interested in hearing the subsequent books.
The reader is unpopular with a lot of listeners, but I like him. The hesitant sounding performance seems to me to fit the hesitancy of the lead character.
This book is not great as a stand-alone book. It’s more like a transition into a new series. It feels like it just barely got started. But I like it anyway.

Some new and some reuse

The book had a new plot and new characters but Anita explanations and dialog from from the new hero characters regurgitated throughout.

struggled to keep listening in first third. just not anywhere near her other series. book just didn't have her flair.

Laurell K Hamilton's Best book yet.

It has been a long time, since we have a plot driven, not smut driven book from Laurell K Hamilton. Though smut is great it is just nice to have a great story that stands on it's own. (Most of her resent Anita Blake books are two great sex scenes and a short novella with a few lines of continuing plot.) I can't wait for the next book in the Angel's series to come out.

All I can say is....WOW!!

Laurell K. Hamilton has come up with YET ANOTHER new series that has the potential to take her fans deep into another UNIQUE world. However, this world is one a little closer to home for the vast majority of us here on planet Earth....Angela & Demons and all kinds of beings and possibilities in between. I won't spoil any story details, but suffice it to say that LKH has done it again...created a story that connects with not only the readers' minds and hearts, but their souls as well!! Thank you, Laurell, and we all look forward to the next installment from this new venture! However, I hope this doesn't mean your muses have stopped yelling, talking, or even whispering to you about Anita and her clan, or even Merideth!! Please, as long as your muses are willing to inspire you, we will continue to be inspired by the resulting yarns spun from their inspirations!!! Again, from the bottom of the heart of a sincere and devotesld, but not psychopathic or stalker-like, fan......THANK YOU!!

Plot sped up towards the end

The book is well written for the majority of it. The ending never explains what happens to the spirit guide that is following Havoc. There was a lot of potential for expanding the plot. One of the biggest critiques I have is that the book essentially takes place over a day then towards the end, we finally end the day. I believe that the plot could have taken place over a week or even a month to allow for more side story to take place. Overall, I enjoyed the book and hope to see more from these sets of characters.

I love the new story

Loved it! Great new story line. I will definitely be looking out for the next one in this series.

Didn’t like the narrator

While I always enjoy LKH books from the first chapter, I struggled from the very beginning to become engaged and I lost focus due to the way the narrator spoke. It would take me a few seconds to realize he was switching from one character’s dialogue to another and often times the words sounded slurred. Also the attempt to speak as the women characters was just terrible. I am a huge LKH fan and always enjoy her books whether it’s in audio form or paper, this time however was a disappointment. I look forward to reading this on paper so that I can meet the characters again and add to my collection of LKH books.
