Quality Urban Fantasy

I want to start by saying I've listened to all the Dresden novels and am a huge fan. When I heard James was releasing a book a was a little skeptical. While there are a few instances of repeated dialog, and obvious attempts to separate his story from his father's, this was a thoroughly enjoyable story. The characters were distinct, the world was fleshed out and the overall story was distinct. I have no doubt I would have bought this book (and future ones) even if the author had no connection to an author I already enjoy. I really enjoyed what the author created and look forward to more installments.

A great first novel!

I really enjoyed the story and the world that James J Butcher has created, but I wasn’t crazy about the performance.
I think the novel would have been even more enjoyable if I had been reading a physical book.

What to say

I normally wait a lil bit before I read a book of a son of one my favorite authors but I will say this was a pleasant surprise just like finding Joe Hill. I wonder if the father and son wizard universe will ever meet maybe somewhere elsewhere.

If you love Dresden, you'll enjoy this.

This is a really good story. Lots of action, funny snark. I hope this is just the beginning of an exciting new series!

5 star beginning

This is a great start! There is an interesting magic system, it's funny and it has the a great urban fantasy feel to it. I'm glad I'm in at the ground floor, looking forward to seeing this world built out!

if you're looking for a great mix of comedy and action, you need not look any further. Dead Man's Hand was a pleasure to read from start to finish. Definitely a must read!

Underdog rising

Loved the characters, narration, and world building. Also, as to all the comments saying this book is too much like the author’s father’s book series I don’t really see it. Excited for the next installment!!!!
