About this listen

Sold into slavery by her father and forsaken by the man she was supposed to marry, young Egyptian Kiya must serve a mistress who takes pleasure in her humiliation. When terrifying plagues strike Egypt, Kiya is in the middle of it all.

Choosing to flee with the Hebrews, Kiya finds herself reliant on a strange God and drawn to a man who despises her people. With everything she's ever known swept away, and now facing the trials of the desert, will she turn back toward Egypt or surrender her life and her future to Yahweh?

Connilyn's Out of Egypt series is the series I am reading for a book club at our church, which just so happens to be the church Connilyn is a member of! I was absolutely mesmerized, I couldnt stop listening. I laughed, cried and felt sorry for some of the Egyptians that died. Everyone who loves to read should read this series.

Cant Put the Book Down

This is our first book by this author, and definitely won't be our last. Such a great concept .... the plagues of Egypt as seen through the eyes of an Egyptian slave girl! We highly recommend this book and look forward to the 2nd in the series. Wish we could give it 10 stars!

Listening to this book is like listening to the diary of someone who was there! For the first time I can completely feel what it was like for the Egyptians to experience the ten plagues. The insult to their God’s totally freaking them out. I’m not even halfway through, but this book is so good. I can hardly wait to finish and begin book 2. Connikyn Cossette has an anointed ability to place her readers inside the pages of the Bible.

This was a nice presentation of what happened in Egypt during time of the Pharaoh and Moses from the life of someone a part of the upper status impacted by poor decisions and bitterness of sin that led to servitude. It covered from the Egyptians world view the lens they may have had during the plagues, and that God was always about restoration of both the gentile and Hebrew to himself. Overall the book helped give a different perspective from how the story is normally told. It was good with nice narration. Overall, I feel it was entertaining although it could have had more story around the Jews experience under the oppression of the Egyptians and their own choices. The narration was fine, Character changes were not enunciated as they are in others I’ve listened to but had a good rhythm.

Different perspective nice to see

This became a treasured favorite the very first time I read it. I have since reread it multiple times, and I will re-read it many times in the future.

I loved this story it is the only reason I kept listening, the narrator had a good voice but she read the book like she was in an English speaking class. Every word pronounced so precisely that there was almost know emotion to it but only correct and precise speaking. It was really distracting and took a lot away from the characters.

great story horriable narrator

After reading reading the Cities Of Refuge series I was a little disappointed in this book.

I almost could not get over the reader attempting a male voice. It was incredibly distracting and completely unnecessary.

Meh

I love historical fiction and this was going back to an era that I have only heard/read documentaries.. she brings the egyptian world to life.. and through her smart storyline gives us a possible look into politics, religion, and caste (class) system... many area we still struggle with today... really enjoyed..

really enjoyed her take on The Exodus

I found some of details not according to Bible but very close! Lots of descriptions.

Good read!

Beautiful story that truly helps you immerse yourself into biblical time. Not a replacement for searching scripture by any means, but there are just some things that I fail to consider before walking through it through the characters experiences.

And the narrator is great at differentiating between characters.

Beautiful biblical fiction story
