Pharaoh's daughters don't cry. When we make our way down the tiled hall, I try to stop at ummi Kiya's chamber. I know her spirit has flown, yet I long for one more moment. Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus. When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by best-selling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus.

He claimed to be the Son of God, and his words - and his life - would change the world. Though David ben Joseph is quick to accept Jesus as the Messiah, the rest of his family is more cautious.

Alexander the Great died at the age of thirty-three, leaving behind an empire that stretched from Greece and Egypt to India. After Alexander's death in 323 B.C. his only direct heirs were two unborn sons and a simpleton half-brother. Every long-simmering faction exploded into the vacuum of power. Wives, distant relatives and generals all vied for the loyalty of the increasingly undisciplined Macedonian army. Most failed and were killed in the attempt.

"Close your eyes, Ela of Parne. Close your eyes and you will see." Ela Roeh of Parne doesn't understand why her beloved Creator, the Infinite, wants her to become His prophet. She’s undignified, bad tempered, and only 17 - not to mention that no prophet of Parne has ever been a girl. Worst of all, as the elders often warn, if she agrees to become the Infinite's prophet, Ela knows she will die young. "Istgard has turned their back on Me. See the evil they do."

More relevant in today's culture than ever.
The story was great very well written and historically accurate. The concept is still as relevant today as it ever was. The narrator was decent but some of the male characters sound as if they are sucking helium. Doesn't really take away from the story though. Overall very good.

Wonderful story!
Would you listen to Gods and Kings again? Why?
Yes. Well written & read! Love biblical novels. I even went back and looked references up in the bible! Author well informed & brought the characters to life! I ran through so many emotions! Happy, sad, horrified, angry! Truly an inspired work!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Loved the main character of Hezekiah. I felt what he felt. Stepped into his character, and even asked the same questions of God as he did. I also liked the character Shebna, the Egyptian scribe & tutor. I really liked him, even though he was a non believer, he did love his earthly king. I felt so bad that he would never accept the truth of a higher Being involved.
Which scene was your favorite?
I had two. The first being Je shu's escape from the Asyrians. Then, the final destruction of the Asyrian empire.
If you could rename Gods and Kings, what would you call it?
I liked the name.
Any additional comments?
No, this was a good read'

I enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this book, it bought tears to my eyes as I thought and heard the word of God in this book. It revealed God's feeling for his people and how we let life steer us away from God and how easy it is to worship idols. The author really showed God's love for us and how he communes with his people who are faithful to him. Beautiful
