Publisher's summary

If 14-year-old Cassandra Reed makes it through her first day at Miss Castwell’s Institute for the Magical Instruction of Young Ladies without anyone discovering her secret, maybe, just maybe, she’ll let herself believe that she really does belong at Miss Castwell’s. Except Cassandra Reed’s real name is Sarah Smith and up until now, she lived her whole life in the Warren, serving a magical family, the Winters, as all non-magical “Snipes” are bound by magical Guardian law to do. That is, until one day, Sarah accidentally levitates Mrs. Winter’s favorite vase in the parlor....

But Snipes aren’t supposed to have magical powers...and the existence of a magical Snipe threatens the world order dictated during the Guardians’ Restoration years ago. If she wants to keep her family safe and protect her own skin, Sarah must figure out how to fit into posh Guardian society, master her newfound magical powers, and discover the truth about how an ordinary girl can become magical.

I'm a convert!
"Changeling was my first foray into one of Molly Harper’s magical universes and it won’t be my last. This fantastical romp is rooted in the real world through lovable characters and a wholesome story line. Fill that Harry Potter-sized hole in your literary heart as Amanda Ronconi (who else, of course!) brings Harper’s whimsical boarding-school story to life."

Refreshing new storyline!

Well Played Molly Harper! I throughly enjoyed this entirely new world and storyline crafting. I can not wait to see where this intriguing rabbit hole leads next. I very much enjoyed that this book is truly YA/teen appropriate without falling into the trap of becoming overly romance driven or too graphic for comfort. Thank you so much for writing a book I can wholeheartedly share with my teen kids.

Enjoyable story

I seem to keep turning to YA books these days, which is funny, because I'm 50, so perhaps not the target audience. In fact, I rather dislike the YA label, because it seems to imply writing for an immature audience. Ah well, in any case, I liked this story and the narration was spot on. I like a story that I can escape into and get lost for a while, and this one fit the bill. I especially liked Philip. There was a wee bit of teen angst here and there, but it wasn't excessive. I'll be looking forward to the sequel.

One of Molly Harper's Best

I always judge a book by how quickly I go through it and how eager I am to re-enter that world each day. I've enjoyed Molly's Half Moon Hollow books but had avoided "Changeling." I'm glad I finally gave it a chance. I was immediately drawn into the story.

The heroine is lovable. Her mentor is admirable, intimidating and frightening (in a good way). The world Molly creates is rich and detailed. The characters are all well crafted and serve the story well.

You could easily dismiss this as nothing more than a Harry Potter copycat, but that would be a mistake. Think of it instead as being part of a magical school sub-genre. With this mindset I think you'll find it a very enjoyable adventure.

I want book 2 NOW!

This book was such fun! If you are a fan of Harry Potter or Gail Carriger I think you will enjoy this one!
I hope there will be a second book soon!

Amanda Ronconi's narration was amazing so many voices and accents I hope she will narrate more!

Harry Potter meets Carriger's Finishing School

This is a meld of familiar elements that works, yet it is different than anything Harper has published before. I've listened to all her books with Ronconi as narrator, and she does a fantastic job taking up a variety of British accents. On the whole, this is a win, and even if I'm not the target audience for this YA title, I look forward to more.

Excellent start to a new series

Light and entertaining with great characters and some unique twists on the magic/non-magic world. Definitely, not a Potter clone. Parts were laugh out loud funny. Waiting with high hopes for the next installment.

Enjoyable Short Story

I enjoyed this story, however it was short. I wish it had been longer and maybe continued with another book. But it was an enjoyable listen.

Quite Surprising

I found this on sale and it looked like light entertainment. I was pleasantly surprised at the refreshingly new plotline and it quickly became a book I couldn't put down. Each chapter brought new scenarios that were unexpected. I enjoyed this and would love to see a line of sequels. I hope this is read by the right people so the thought is taken seriously.
Thanks for the escape from reality.

Fun easy read

A nice light read with a bit of humor and mystery mixed in, was a perfect audio book to listen to while doing some boring chores with family and co-workers
