Acerca de esta escucha

Sometimes the story of an apocalypse isn’t one of tragedy, but one of opportunity....

Dan Slaughter has given up on appearances. With his wife dead and his kids grown, he’s slowly reverting back to the east Tennessee boy he used to be three decades earlier. He quit cutting his hair and started smoking pot. He drinks when he wants to and sings along with the classic songs of his lost youth.

When his childhood friend Carl dies suddenly, Dan agrees to help Carl’s mother with the estate, even when it means traveling across the country to Boise, Idaho. Worse yet, Dan has to fly and that’s no easy task for a paranoid hillbilly not used to following rules.

Once he arrives in Boise, it doesn’t take long for Dan to figure out that there’s a lot more to his friend’s death than he’d been led to believe. He begins to suspect the overdose was actually murder and he can’t let it rest.

Only days after arriving, a mysterious solar event traps Dan in the city, leaving him with no prospect of returning home anytime soon. Rather than panicking, Dan readily accepts the new state of things. For him, the apocalypse is an opportunity. With no law enforcement, his plan to deliver a dose of Tennessee justice in downtown Boise just got a whole lot easier.

just enough prepper moteefe to make it interesting without the ridiculous gadget for every scenario on hand. characters are very well developed and the story is very intriguing

Excellent!

I have never read Mr. Horton's books before, so I cannot comment on whether this is the best book to start with this author on. It certainly was for me, as I immediately tried to figure out when Book 2 was coming (only to realize Book 1 was published this summer). Very simply this was an excellent post EMP book for the masses as it had a "normal" main character who is just trying to get by while dealing with internal battles of morality. By normal I mean someone that I think most people who are not super preppers could relate to. I can almost picture my retired father in Dan's shoes, I'm also a big fan of E TN, so perhaps I'm partial (Idaho has always sounded like a place to visit as well, have to say it's next on the list after this book).

Mr. Horton, if you happen to read these reviews, please hurry with Book 2 and in the meantime I shall be burning my stimulus money to binge read your other books. Don't take too long as I do not know when the next stimulus or job is coming, and I want to get Book 2 before I'm broke!

Great Series (Hopefully)

Really enjoyed Mr. Pierce; again, he performs in a fine voice for the entire story.

The Story seems a bit too easy for the main character to make several escapes…..

When the World falls apart, not sure revenge would outweigh survival (being 2000 miles from home)

Still I will look for a next book by Mr. Horton
- nice character development
And good story pace

Good Story (too easy) for…..

Well written and as usual well narrated(Kevin Pierce my favorite). I like this starting out with a regular middle class man without any training. It gives a new perspective.

Riveting story

I love how the main character is just a regular guy. He isn't an ex-military badass already when the trouble starts.

Great story

Franklin Horton never fails to deliver. I hope the 2nd book comes soon. This series promises to be a different type of apocalyptic story and I love it.

Ready for book 2
