About this listen
Dearra comes into possession of the magical Sword of Cyrus just as the evil Breken attack her island home. Though her people succeed in driving their enemy back to the sea, one of the invaders remains behind, left for dead by his cruel kin.
Now, Dearra doesn’t know what to be more surprised by, the fact that her sword can speak to her or that it has imperiously informed her that the handsome Breken warrior is her destiny.
The two are bound together by a chain of events that was set into motion 1,000 years earlier, and everything they thought they knew about themselves, their history, and their future is about to change.

On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

Story
After centuries of conflict, a peace treaty has finally been drawn between the warring Saxons and Norse—largely due to the wisdom and bravery of the legendary Viking leader Wolf Hakonson and the noble warrior Lord Hawk. Hawk and Wolf each married women from warring clans to unite the Saxons and Norse. But for all its blessings, the promise of peace will remain fragile—unless it can be sealed forever by a third and final marriage between these two proud clans.

Great romance without too much drama & some magic
Would you listen to Breathe again? Why?
Yes, it was a very entertaining book to listen to.
What other book might you compare Breathe to and why?
The reason this book peeked my interest was because the premise sounded like the one for Forgotten Ages which I also liked.
Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but he seem to also narrate The Sorcerer's Sags so I might be listening more of him soon.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Listening to the book, I had totally forgotten about the prologue, that is until the epilogue. And what a revelation that was.
Any additional comments?
I just have to say, I was annoying how they kept ignoring the danger "he" posed since the beginning. And cheers for the sarcastic "sword".

11 plus hours and a cliffhanger
"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, via Audiobook Boom, and have voluntarily left this review." A cliffhanger after more than 11 hours of listening. I am disappointed. I enjoyed the entire story and was surprised that a mind that could create such a story could not finish it while alluding to the next story. This causes me unnecessary issues because by the time the next story is complete I have forgotten this one and I sure don't want to spend another 11 plus hours re-listening to this in order to get the next one. There are too many books to listen to before my life is over to do this. The narrator kept me involved in the story.

Fun Fantasy
Breathe
The Destiny Series, Book 1
: Christine Grey
Breathe, is the first book in The Destiny Series. There is plenty of action and adventure. Romance between unlikely pair keeps everyone on their toes. I like the strong female protagonist!!! There is great humor from a sarcastic talking sword, who has a secret of its own.
If you like fantasy this is one for you.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. J. Scott Bennett

Who is the real enemy?
I was initially attracted to this book because the summary alluded to a talking sword. That conjured up a character with an attitude that I believed would be amusing. I was correct!
Breathe, is the first book in The Destiny Series. The overall tale focuses on an honourable people, the Maage, who were invaded by a barbaric nation, the Brekken. In the end, the Maage were able to keep their land. However, a Brekken warrior had been captured and the the Maage’s High lord’s 10 year old son had been kidnaped to be used for ransom. In this first instalment, we get to know the Maage people especially the High Lord’s Daughter, Deera and her growing friendship with the enemy - Darius, the Bakkian warrior. It is odd that he the only other person who can hear the sword.
Much is left open for the next book. Without reading/listening to it, I will not be content. I want the rest of the story.
The narrator, J. Scott Bennett did a great job of telling the story. I am often put off when males do female voices, but he did a believable job so it was easy to listen to. I was given this book, at my request, in exchange for an honest review. Now, I’m going to get Book 2 in The Destiny series, Whisper.

These characters just made me smile!
This is a wonderful story. I loved the characters and couldn’t do anything but hope for their happy ending. I was easily drawn into this. It has adventure, action and sarcasm. The humor is done very well. Many times I was smiling or laughing while listening to this. It’s very enjoyable.
I listened to this on audio. J Scott Bennett is the narrator. I love listening to his voice. He does a great job with the different characters. When he was singing....awesome!!

Could not stop listening!
Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?
I became a fan of J. Scott Bennett after listening to him narrate the Titanic story, and he did not disappoint. He has a nice range of voices and conveys many moods!
By far my favorite character - considering both the story and narration - was Brin!
Any additional comments?
I wish this book was turned into a movie, maybe by Disney Studios.
It's not a serious and dark adventure, but a light and romantic one, with touches of humor that made me smile. There is instant love between the characters which I found very pleasantly Disney-like, but I see how some people might be turned off by that so here's my "warning".
The story is not fully contained in this book and the end paves the way for a sequel, so if you're bothered by that it can be a good idea to wait for the next installment. I know I am expecting it eagerly!

The characters were fun and comical at times
Breathe (The Destiny Series, #1)
by Christine Grey Narrated by J. Scott Bennett
Breathe was a good read; the story was detailed and the imagery was vivid. The characters were fun and comical at times; Dearra was a unique character and I loved having a strong female as the main character, even if she did behave like a child at times. I loved the adventurous and suspenseful parts of the story the most. Unfortunately, there was a lot of unnecessary text in between the good parts. I felt a bit overwritten at times and slowed the story down but it was worth it in the end. I rate the story with 3 stars.
I listened to the audio version of this and the voices the narrator gave the characters kept me listening. He is definitely a creative and talented narrator! I give the narration 5 stars.
Overall rating for this book is 4 stars.

Sarcastic Talking Sword! Great Start to a New Fantasy Series
This is the first book I have read with a talking sword! It was unique and fun to say the least. Brin is sarcastic and always seem to have an attitude. The story sucked me in and kept me interested all the way to the last chapter.
Narration was good and brought the story to life.
This is a clean fantasy romance between Dearra and Darius! Brekens invade her island trying to kill or enslaved them but her people manage to drive them away back to sea. Darius is a Breken but he never cared for the ruthless way his people live. He was left behind by his own kin.
The story wraps up with no major cliffhangers although there are unresolved issues for the next book to address and resolve.
I’m looking forward to the next book. They will have to travel far to go rescue someone the Breken have taken with them!

Great start to the series
I really enjoyed this fantasy story of finding love where you least expect it, acceptance and seeing past differences. It has fierce invaders, suspense, sorrow, treachery and romance. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing the story and characters to life and I was presently surprised by his melodic singing voice too. I really liked the characters in this story, they had depth, with life like flaws, worries and insecurities, but still creating distinct cultures. I look forward to the continuation of the story in the next audiobook

Fun Fantasy, love the sarcastic sword
This was a really fun new and clean fantasy with a Disney level romance and a sarcastic sword for the comic relief. No spoilers here so I will just say it ends without cliffhangers but is still left open enough that I am looking forward to the squeal.
The narrator does a fantastic job and is a real joy to listen to. I have listened to many other books narrated J. Scott Bennett and he is consistent with his quality of character voices, narration and great acting skills.
