About this listen

"Skillfully outlines how to prepare for and raise a child out of wedlock." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

Winner of Three First Place Literary Awards (see Amazon description page for details).

Baby Out of Wedlock is the first and only guidebook written specifically to help the millions of unmarried parents who find themselves involved with an unexpected pregnancy.

This award-winning book answers all the basic questions regarding paternity tests, co-parenting relationships, child custody laws, visitation rights, support payments, and much more. The result is a better relationship with your co-parent and lower attorney fees. Each author has a child born out of wedlock from their previous relationships. They both stumbled through terrible custody battles, making many rookie mistakes that led to important lessons learned.

The information offered here could quite literally save you thousands of dollars, especially if you and your co-parent both read it. You will need an attorney to get through this no matter what, but once both parents understand what is reasonable, there should be no need for a costly, drawn-out custody battle.

By listening to this book, you'll learn how to write an effective Parenting Plan and how to enforce it without repeated trips back to court. Since the authors have experience in both the mother's and father's perspectives on these issues, you will get balanced, gender-neutral advice on protecting your parental rights while learning how to get along with your co-parent for the long-term.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Very practical and informative!

I read this book because I have a close friend who just had a child out of wedlock, and I thought I might be able to learn a few things to help him out. I was right! This book is very easy to read, practical and thoughtful. Full of very specific and actionable steps to help someone avoid the common legal, financial, and emotional pitfalls that raising a child out of wedlock can bring. It is a "must read" for anyone who is co-parenting (i.e. raising a child while not in a relationship with the other parent), and it also offers tons of great advice for parents/spouses who are in a more traditional family structure. Five stars!!!

Read and use this book!

If you or a loved one are (unexpectedly!) expecting, do yourself a favor and read this book. Your situation is pressure-filled enough. Let Jim and Jessica help you identify several questions you may not even be thinking about. I would also suggest both expecting parents read this. It will help spur topics that need to be discussed now as well as the future. Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that you’re not alone! Read and use this book!

Married or not, you need to read this.

This is an excellent read!! It may be speaking to unwed parents, however there are many married/divorced parents that need this information as well. Very logical and informative.

Money and time saver!!

I bought this book for a friend who had a baby on a one night stand. He found this really helped him navigate the system and protect himself from what was being asked of him from the mother. This book not only saved him money in lawyer fees but time learning about the system! He was really thankful to have this as a tool to help him through the process. A must read if you find yourself in this situation!!
