About this listen

One day, computer scientist Max Chu is greeted by a mysterious intelligence that calls to him through Max's own systems. It proposes an alliance. The plan: to combat Lilith, a menace that has haunted humanity since the beginning of time. Max is faced with two questions: Who is his new friend, exactly? And what does it really want?

Amaranthine is an action-packed science fiction novel that speculatively explores the infamous story of "Lilith", part of the apocryphal creation myth. Lilith is seen from the beginning of modern humanity through to her death and beyond.

"With the world in cataclysm, can humanity and a benevolent AI prevail? Ellison gives his third novel an enormous, captivating scope that spans history, time, space, and dimensions, with many rich, philosophical musings." (Kirkus Reviews)

A coming-of-age, cautionary tale.

Amaranthine

This book was good. It had some great parts in it but really dragged at spots. Narration by Geoffrey Boyers was very well done.

An Entertainingly Satisfying Novel!

John Eric Ellison has woven a masterful book of apocalyptic proportions with immortal characters such as Lilith, a uniquely dangerous and captivating creature. Lilith's mortal persona of a powerfully influential and manipulative modern woman is what makes her all the more dangerous and disarming to most men. At the same time, she is far from a black-and-white villain. She kind of reminds me of the way Gregory Maguire redefined the Wicked Witch of the West as a misunderstood creature.

Geoffrey Boyes' narration is flawlessly done. His voice acting is engaging and listening to the audio version of this book is a whole new level of "wow" experience on its own.

Captivating blend of Horror and Science fiction

Fascinating combination of apocryphal stories blended into a gripping science fiction tale. The humanization of the Internet blended with great human character development. superbly narrated.

Thought provoking.

Thought provoking. Especially the idea of "Maker" and freedom of choice.

I also enjoyed Boyes narration.

I struggled

Narration was great.
I struggled to get through this one. There was a lot of repetitive things during conversations. The story was a bit convoluted at times. I don’t think I was the target audience for this although the description of the story sounded intriguing. I love any type of science fiction or fantasy but this one just didn’t hit the right marks for me. It wasn’t terrible and had some interesting concepts.
