About this listen

Hidden portals link Earth to numerous other planets. But why do they all contain human civilizations? And why does our nearest neighbor have its sights set on Earth?

Noah Harris and Ashley Flynn are field agents for a powerful organization tasked with protecting humanity from the misuse of game-changing technology. But when they discover hidden portals that link Earth to numerous planets, put in place ages earlier by transcendent beings, they are thrust into a maze of deception and intrigue they can't begin to understand....one that not only has them battling for their very lives, but that will decide the fate of worlds.

Because, inexplicably, each of the planets contain human civilizations, and the human rulers of our nearest portal neighbor–having already conquered their own world–have come up with a brilliant, twisted plan to conquer ours.

Only Noah and Ashley stand in their way...

From New York Times bestselling author Douglas E. Richards, whose books have sold over two million copies, Portals is a masterful near-future thriller packed with action, astonishing twists, and mind-blowing concepts.

Meh

The narrator sounds like a tv newscaster. Too much boring dialogue. Wish I could return this one.

Best book I have read in some time!

This is the first book by this author, but it is definitely not going to be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narrator is one of my favorites as well!

Characters over the top, but it’s ok!

I enjoyed it overall. Sometimes the characters were a little over the top, but that’s what made it fun. The narrator was good too even sped up. Hard combo to beat!

Spectacular Richards Srikes Again

My only criticism was the narrator’s emotional reading of the character in places it didn’t seem appropriate. But overall it was believable and fun. The story seemed like Clive Cussler and Arthur C. Clarke got together with all the crafty Cussler twists in a Clarke-like Foundations setting. The end of story future projections made me think of Childhood’s End. I especially liked the ‘what if the Roman Empire never fell’ (akin to The Enigma Cube’s supposition of Hitler being assassinated). Most interesting was the analysis of addictions in our society and its comparisons under a totalitarian rule. Well done! I’m ready for the next book.

So good!

This is yet another amazing story! It is a stand alone book - but really hoping it turns into the next series - that leverages many of the same tech concepts that his books are known for and they all are based on real science - not some way down the road concept but things that are being worked on today. Ok, the actual portal might be a few years off ;)

Looking forward to the next book, Mr. Douglas E. Richards is my favorite author!

Love the story but not the narration

I absolutely LOVE all of Douglas E Richards books but struggled with this narration. His female voices annoyed me for some reason. The story, itself, was amazing! So many points drive home how we are so much better off than we believe to be true, how we are so addicted to SO many things and how so many of those addictions could be our undoing.
Can't wait for the next book!

Love the tech in the book

I like the way he included info on his tech research in the epilogue of the book

Superb twists around every corner.

Amazing. Starts as some sort of advanced spy thriller, but the levels of twists and sci-fi turns kept me on my toes all the way to the end. I was quite impressed by the authors ability to weave such a tangled, multi-layered story together.
All that and it actually had an ending, (and a good one to boot), like books are supposed to have, but so few do nowadays.

Twists n turns galore

I absolutely loved all of the complexities found in this novel. The story was compelling and fun, and the author is clearly ahead of his time.
