Publisher's summary
A curious girl discovers simple delight in her mother’s magic marker. But when her desire to visit the hospital on a school day throws the family into an unexpected emergency, will modern medicine come to the rescue, or must a mysterious spell be broken some other way?
Alice and the Magic Marker is a family-friendly short story and mystery that culminates on Christmas Day. It explores parent-child relationship themes like rules, responsibility, and routine. It also contemplates creativity, curiosity, growing up, and patience, as well as the inevitable temptation to break rules and sneak and cover up to avoid getting caught.
Most importantly, it invites us to consider our spiritual relationship with God through his redemptive providence. God leads us to our need for confession, forgiveness, and restoration in the family, not to mention maturity and the use of gifts for the good of others. And at the end of the day, can we find a place to appreciate God's sense of humor?

Everyone knows everyone in the tiny town of Bourne, but the Mitchell triplets are especially beloved. Mirabel is the smartest person anyone knows, and no one doubts it just because she can’t speak. Monday is the town’s purveyor of books now that the library’s closed - tell her the book you think you want, and she’ll pull the one you actually do from the microwave or her sock drawer. Bett Devlin, who's fearless, outgoing, and loves all animals as well as the ocean, lives in California. What they have in common is that they are both 12 years old and are both being raised by single, gay dads. When their dads fall in love, Bett and Avery are sent, against their will, to the same sleepaway camp. Their dads hope they will find common ground and become friends - and possibly, one day, even sisters.

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
If you were asked to choose the most fabulous character in English literature, who would it be? Perhaps the one and only Ichabod Crane. When this superstitious schoolmaster moves into the quiet village of Sleepy Hollow, he quickly starts vying for the affection of heiress Katrina Van Tassel. However, this puts him in the path of town bully Brom Bones. Will Ichabod win Katrina's heart, or will he fall victim to the small town's big legend—the Headless Horseman?

A very charming story
this was a very charming story with realistic characters. I enjoyed the way the parts of the story fit together to emphasize the importance of everyday routines and faithfulness in the little things.
