Great for Getting Started in PR

Great read! As a college student studying public relations, this book has been an invaluable tool. I listened to the audiobook and am now getting a paper copy to annotate and mark up for future reference.

Amy organizes the chapters by media types, from print and online to television and radio. Her tone feels like you're being mentored by a PR pro in a very casual yet sincere manner. Some of the topics she covers include timelines and pitch tips, tutorials for writing press releases and media lists, how to contact reporters, and more. It truly is a great starting point for practicing public relations in 2024. The book incorporates modern PR practices related to digital media and SEO techniques that are essential today. One aspect I thoroughly enjoyed was Amy's anecdotes, which make the book feel conversational. The content is relatively dense, especially for PR novices, so I'm looking forward to reading through it again soon.

Removed the podcast mentions!!

Thank you to the person who wrote about the podcast mentions. I could see how that would be annoying in audio format, so we removed.

Just an aside, you could not get the whole book from listening to the podcast. The podcast is conversations between two people about specific things, maybe mentioned in the book, maybe not.

For example, if you want to know what it’s like to be a public information officer, we interview a public information officer on the podcast. This was mentioned in the book where we’re talking about PIOs as a resource for people to learn more about it.

But I’ve removed those mentions as yeah, annoying! From, the author

All info is on her podcast

She kept sending people to her podcast for information. I didn’t buy this book to be referred to a podcast for info, I wanted the info in this book. Really disappointed.
