When a missing person case lands on their desks, Munro is skeptical there is much to it. But their investigation soon comes to some strange findings, and before long a body is found. With a serial killer on their hands, they must act fast to trace a woman placed at the scene of the crime. Yet discovering her true identity, let alone finding her, proves difficult. And as the plot thickens they realise the crime is far graver than either of them could have imagined.

Story
Detective Constable Janet Scott is subtle and reliable, a diplomatic thinker with a wry sense of humor. She's put in the time and seen it all, but has no desire for the boss's job—she loves her own too much. Rachel Bailey couldn't be more different—she's energetic, impulsive, and ambitious, and has just been transferred to the Manchester murder squad. Their commander thinks Rachel's intuition could make her a great cop, but has reservations about her shoot-first-think-later approach, so she partners her with Janet.

“Kay bit her lip”
There used to be an old joke that Lee Child must have a short key for the phrase “Reacher said nothing,” after listening to this entire series to date I have concluded that Ms Amphlett surely has one for “Kay bit her lip.”
Still, it’s probably Kay’s only ‘fault’ (if it can even be called one) since she’s a pretty marvellous character in every other way and ably supported by an equally likeable team. Some of the police (and medical) procedural issues throughout the series are not entirely correct, but it’s fiction and I can live with it.
This was a good story and the narration was great as usual.
