At age twenty-two, Nadine married Jordan Belfort, the nefarious stockbroker portrayed in the Hollywood blockbuster The Wolf of Wall Street. Their marriage began as a fairy tale, but once they were bonded, Jordan’s “mask” began to slip, and acts of infidelity, narcissistic abuse, insatiable greed, and uncontrollable drug addiction became Nadine’s nightmare. The horrific relationship gave Nadine the inspiration to become a psychotherapist specializing in narcissistic abuse, trauma bonds, and complex PTSD.

Story
Most people are both repelled and intrigued by the images of cold-blooded, conscienceless murderers that increasingly populate our movies, television programs, and newspaper headlines. With their flagrant criminal violation of society's rules, serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy are among the most dramatic examples of the psychopath. Individuals with this personality disorder are fully aware of the consequences of their actions and know the difference between right and wrong....

Story
The world has been indoctrinated with the false notion that narcissism is the result of a bad childhood. It’s as if narcissists have been granted immunity from responsibility. Mental health professionals - and the general public alike - seem more than willing to offer narcissists a perfectly convenient scapegoat: trauma. The goal of this book, using the most recent empirical evidence on the etiology and treatment of narcissistic personality disorder - is to dispel the widely held and already discredited myth that narcissism is the result of childhood trauma.

SO informative and healing
Reviewed: 09-18-24
Knowledge is so healing and validating. These people will drive you to your grave and THEN claim they were trying to rescue or help you, AND that you victimized THEM. It's deadly, one way or another. It's absolutely genetic, that's why, by the end of their lives, only their cluster B family members, or people who need them for money, will still be around. Everyone else is either slowly killed by their constant abuse or they eventually flee with often nothing that they helped build. It's a slow motion nightmare.

Story
Statistics tell us something that's almost impossible to grapple with: it's not the stranger in the dark women should fear, but the men they fall in love with. See What You Made Me Do is not only a searing investigation, but also a dissection of how that violence can be enabled and reinforced by the judicial system we trust to protect us. It carefully dismantles the flawed logic of victim-blaming and challenges everything you thought you knew about psychological abuse and emotional abuse relationships, while shining a spotlight on domestic violence awareness and abuse awareness.

Most important, she assures you that such a transformation is possible—given the right circumstances. Evans also helps you determine if your abuser really has changed—or if he’s merely creating the illusion of change. And if he hasn’t changed, Evans helps you decide whether it’s time to leave the relationship—and what to do when it is.

Story
It’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma, the next they gaslight you, wreck your self-confidence, and leave you wondering, What could I have done differently? As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

Critical Life Saving Knowledge
Reviewed: 02-24-24
It's no exaggeration to say that every caring person needs to educate themselves on this topic. We can learn so many things about life, but if we don't understand dishonest, unethical, selfish people, our society is going to fall apart. Dr Ramani takes a complex and overwhelming subject and puts it into terms that anyone can understand not only mentally, but emotionally. The book is written in a tone of love and compassion, and the quotes and stories included are touching to the spirit. Our species is at a tipping point, individually and collectively, and I think we all sense it. The wisdom in this book can help us make safer decisions and hopefully teach our children how to protect themselves from harmful people and systems.
