Gene Stratton-Porter (1863-1924) was an early naturalist and nature photographer who wrote several best-selling novels. Colum wrote The Children's Homer in 1918 as a retelling for younger readers of Homer's epic poems, The Iliad and The Odyssey. It recounts the adventures of Achilles and his allies as he waged war against the Trojans and the experiences of Odysseus on his voyage back from the Trojan War.
