Interesting beginning of a series.

The story took a long time to be interesting. I was not disappointed in the ending as I know there will be more in the series.

Oh a slow burn, an intellectual burn but delicious !

I really enjoyed this ! I highly recommend ! Fun doing a puzzle with a triumphant last piece moment.

Starts slowly, gets better

Author has done her research. No anachronistic attitudes to spoil the story. Not my favorite narrator but not grating, so overall okay

An interesting start to a new cosy series

I enjoyed the book more than I expected. The starting, like many had reviewed, was slow. However, it gave a solid introduction to the characters. Some were likeable, some not so, but it added a balanced and realistic feel to the villagers. The plot was intriguing, and it was only near the last chapter when I was able to guess who and why. I look forward to book 2.

Fantastic

I love historical mysteries and I was anxious to start this one! It was truly spellbinding and gripped me from the beginning!!

Cannot wait for more!

The ending was disappointing!

It was a fairly good story but I did have to set the narration to 1.20. I jumped over a few paragraphs throughout the book. I was left speechless at the poorly written ending. It was so abrupt and disappointing.

Narrator is boring and story starts slowly

Story was very slow to get started with a boring narrator. I kept dozing off during the first few chapters. It got better and I would like to go on to the next one but I wish there was a different narrator.

not half bad

Faithful to the genre but sensible realistic characters, and though somewhat predictable, manages to avoid some of the worst romantic cliches.

Disappointing End

I liked the book until the end when it was so disappointing. The story is well written and the narrator does a fine job. I’m not sure I will ever get over the end though.

Accidentally re-read this

This series slipped through the cracks of my memory, so I’d added this as a free one and bought the rest on sale. The story came back to me, but it was good enough that I enjoyed it a second time.
