The perfect couple. The perfect marriage. The perfect game.

Effie and Ben May have everything. Success. Beauty. Glamour. But beneath the charming smiles and expensive clothes, a twisted game is in progress.

A game for which only they know the rules.

Leaving their fast-paced London life behind them, the Mays move to the exclusive gated community of Ivy Oaks. Here they can settle down and start a family in this quiet, safe little neighbourhood. At least, that’s what they tell their new neighbours.

But the truth has deadly consequences.

While Effie and Ben scheme and manipulate those around them, they fail to notice their carefully cultivated façade crumbling away. The perfect couple soon turn the game on each other, breaking all the rules. But when the stakes are life and death, losing isn’t an option.

As the final cards are dealt, who will play the winning hand and who will pay the ultimate price?

Ok

I enjoy a good thriller and a good mystery, and I'd say this story is both. I did think the ending was a bit on the predictable side, but since it was just the ending, I didn't mind too much. I was slightly annoyed with the production. I usually prefer my books without extra music and sound effects, and although it was helpful to differentiate the news reports and online writings with a clearly different voice, all the music breaks were a bit much. There were also some instances when the narrator for Effie's voice seemed to read words wrong, as if she was focusing on keeping the accent and her voice the way it was supposed to be, only to say a word in a strange way. But overall, I enjoyed this story.

The suspense factor was on point!

The book didn't have many twists and turns, you pretty much knew who the villain was in the beginning, but there is a great choice at the end. I did appreciate the different facets of the characters and their plots and problems. You really don't find a protagonist in this. You don't want to side with any of them really, but in the end you'll figure out who should get your sympathy. It's a great read! Or listen...

Great story!!!

The performance was awesome! I loved the addition of music. The story had great twist and turns and even had some surprises I didn’t see coming. 10/10

Sick in a way…

The storyline was a turn-off at first, but the characters if Effie and Ben were well-developed. Twist and turns !

Too long for me, but ending was great!

Too long for me, got lost in between. But the story was good and at the end, it was sad. And the plot twist great!

Good narrators

The narrators were good. Kind of boring, no real twists, and the ending was flat and boring.

Compelling

It was a bit predictable, but I found myself wanting to hear more anyway. Great cast!

Great narrating, but story was weak

This book has great bones, and good parts, but I think it was trying to do too much and the story just felt too flimsy for me. Still, an enjoyable listen.

Great story, but

This was a really great plot line, and the story writing and performance was done very well. I do not know why this happens with great storytelling but it feels like the author hired someone else to tell the ending, and the characters become different. I was left thinking “But, but, what?”
