About this listen
When I left my old life behind, I thought I’d seen the worst of it. Turns out, I was wrong.
Six months after discovering I’m a Warlock, surviving my first semester at a magic college filled with witches, and forming a coven with my roommate, things are getting complicated.
Just as I’m starting to make sense of Willowmere and the Witch Families that want me bound to them—or dead—Morgan, the closest thing I had to family in foster care, shows up. Only she’s got magic of her own. Now, between trying to figure out how to keep her safe, discovering the dark forces targeting my classmates, and keeping my coven together, life has officially reached a new level of weird.
At least I’m not alone. With my witch, Samantha, by my side and Melaina, my ancient, powerful (and frustratingly attractive) mentor, guiding me, I’m building a coven strong enough to keep the Families at bay. But as I delve deeper into the dark force targeting Willowmere, the lines between love, power, and loyalty blur as my coven grows in unexpected ways, adding an internal battle for us to face.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Good continuation to the Series
I enjoyed this book as much as the first. It's a good continuation to the series. Not overly heavy on the sex or constant action which is a problem that most of the authors of this genre fall into.
My only complaint is that the author leans too heavily into the "dumb MC" trope. Situations that are glaringly obvious have the MC asking stupid questions or arriving at stupid conclusions.
Other than that I recommend this book.

I came looking for smut and found gold
Genuinely surprised on how well thought out most of the characters are and how it’s not just your typical smutty series. It’s more of a slice of life with magic than anything.

A hidden gem.
This sub-genre to me is the literary equivalent of cupcakes. Nobody is confusing what you are eating for fine dining, but there is nothing wrong with some enjoyable empty calories every now and then.
This series felt more like I was going in for cupcakes and discovered a bakery that also did patisserie. There are the harem tropes that people come looking for, but I found a lot more care was given to the characters. Not everybody thinks the MC is the world’s greatest thing. The women have preferences that differentiate them from each other in more than just which trope do they fulfill. The story wasn’t completely predictable either.
These seem like damning with faint praise, but if you have read enough harem books you can see why there is a level of care here that is rarer than you would hope and I am really excited to see that carried forward in this wonderful series.

amazing second book, can't wait for more
the voice actors do a great job, the 🔥 is even better than the last book, and the plot continues to thicken. Also there are some legitimately funny moments that made me laugh in a good way.
spoilers:
I was glad that Morgan actually got told she's a witch and didn't have to wait until she graduated, and hope things get better with Cassandra. I didn't see her joining, but it was believable. Hopefully she'll see more 🔥 action and also makes things up with Rachel. I hope the MC bonds Rachel and Morgan next book, they've waited long enough.

Refreshing and well balanced
In a genre that can sometimes feel as though the reader/listener is being subjected to the same basic formula over and over again, this series and author truly attempt and are mostly successful at emphasizing quality first and foremost. The author does an admirable job at balancing intrigue, humor, world building, hardships, character relatability and relationships, consequences, the magic system and so much more.
Highly recommend for slow burn and foreplay. Quickies need not apply (ok, there’s some of that too)
Lewis and Roz - Great choice of voice actors/narrators for the complex cast of characters and dynamic delivery of dialogue.
Perhaps my biggest gripe - Too much recap of book 1 being info dumped into book 2. It breaks immersion and feels like punishment to most binge readers or those who read/listen to the series multiple times.

Read them both together
I'm really enjoying the series. This book had some crazy twists that made thing interesting. I love the girls and can't wait to fill out more of the coven. That ending was kinda funny and I'm anticipating the next book.
