Publisher's summary

Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward.

Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.

And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger.

Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D.

And now she might never escape.

Amy is a little ridiculous

The premise of the story is excellent. The problem I had with it is that someone who is a third-year medical student which makes her 24- 25 years old and allegedly smart, seemed to do such stupid things during her medical school time. The high school stuff is different. Everyone’s immature. She made some bad decisions. Fine. But thinking there might be scissors at a nursing station in a psych ward that’s locked down? Ridiculously stupid.. Not listening to her gut when she was trying to escape the psych ward and just satisfied her curiosity?. Ridiculously stupid. Knowing that she hallucinated that little girl, but didn’t take pictures of other things that she’s certain she saw? Stupid; she did have a phone with her and it would take a picture even without a signal. Ridiculously stupid. So, again, could’ve been a really, really really good story had too many details that were,, frankly, (again) ridiculous . The narrator was good except for the way she said iced tea. We like diction from our narrators but that was over the top.

Unique and Surprising, but…

I really wanted to love this book. However, it was written from the perspective of a 24-year-old, so immature. Amy was naive and too easily swayed by several other characters. I finished the book because I wanted to find how how it ended. Lots of twists and turns did hold my interest.

Loved being on Ward D, WANT MORE!!

Ward D leaves you wanting more. The insight into this psychiatric world is hypnotic. Freida takes you on a journey, and teaches you along the way. I can only hope this is the beginning of series, because I am in love with Ward D.

Just ok

I LOVE FM and was ready to listen as soon as this came out. It was just not my favorite of hers. Very slow in the beginning. Had a similar twist as another one of her books. Wanted to love it but just ok.

Such a fun read!

I really enjoyed this book. I think some reviewers took it a little too seriously. I took it as a fun read and enjoyed it very much. It isn't meant to be a Tom Clancy book or even Robin Cook lol, thank goodness. I like Freida's books so much better.

Ward “T”

Definitely a good listen/read

I usually figure out the “aaa-ha” moment kind of early on, but this one kept me going right until the reveal!

The narrator was not bad. I like the storyline, a few things were a little unrealistic for a psych ward, especially not checking on people in isolation, not feeding them, etc. for long periods of time, even if they are restrained, even more so when they are restrained.

But it’s a fiction book so I can forgive the little inconsistencies .

It had lots of good twists, especially the ending. Which I appreciated a lot. A lot of the books by this author. I always hope that there is some type of follow up.

If you are looking for a exciting book for a long trip/car ride, or just because, and you dig this genre, you will definitely enjoy this one

Not her usual caliber.

The protagonist was not very bright and certainly shouldn’t become a doctor. The story was totally predictable. Don’t waste your credit.
