There are many misconceptions about what it means to be humble. Some think that being humble means hiding your talents and abilities or being weak and inauthentic. But the Bible paints a different picture—defining humility as a self-forgetfulness leading to joy and explaining that it is a life-giving virtue that frees you from the restricting needs of your ego. In Humility: The Joy of Self-Forgetfulness, Gavin Ortlund encourages listeners that humility is not just an abstract virtue but a mark of gospel integrity.

Publisher's summary
In Jesus' greatest sermon, he begins with the Beatitudes: nine statements that turn our world upside down. He's establishing a counterculture, a different way to seeing reality, with a shocking set of blessings. Jesus is asking us to join him in a kingdom that challenges everything we normally believe and hold dear...and offers us more than we've ever imagined.
Sound intriguing? Hold on tight.
Look at this modern translation: "God's kind of happiness comes to those who know they are poor. Divine comfort is showered on those whose hearts are broken with grief. If you are truly meek, the whole world belongs to you. And for those of you who are suffering for doing the right thing - awesome! It's a party time! You belong in God's hall of fame!"
In this audiobook, Pastor Bill White gives us a door of understanding. If we walk through it, we'll find that these paradoxical truths turn conventional wisdom upside down...and they fill our hearts with God's love, forgiveness, wisdom, and strength.

This book focuses on the necessity of regular prayer as a central practice in the local church - awakening us to the need and blessing of corporate prayer by examining what Jesus taught about prayer, how the first Christians approached prayer, and how to prioritize prayer in our congregations.

Story
In his acclaimed books, renowned writer, speaker, and philosophy professor Dallas Willard explored the nature of Christian life in God's Kingdom. Yet one topic remained undisclosed: Willard's understanding of heaven and eternal life. In the months before his death, Willard engaged in moving and insightful conversations about the meaning of life and the life to come with close friend and theologian Gary Black, Jr. These inspiring dialogues were steeped in biblical theology as well as practical wisdom grounded in the here-and-now.

Story
Best-selling author John Ortberg dispels the myth that eternal life is something way out in outer space that we can only hope to experience after we die - and that being saved is merely about meeting the minimal entrance requirements for getting into heaven. Instead, John unpacks the reality that the moment we trust Christ, we are initiated into “eternal living” with God as a here and now reality, one that will continue beyond our life on this earth.

Story
Significant events such as birth, marriage, and death are milestones in our lives in which we experience our greatest happiness and our deepest grief. And so it is profoundly important to understand how to approach and experience these occasions with grace, endurance, and joy. In On Birth, Timothy Keller - theologian and best-selling author - helps us understand both physical and spiritual birth, as well as how baptism connects the two. Keller draws on 45 years as a pastor and a parent to consider what it means to receive a new birth as well as to be reborn.

Is praying a duty or a delight? J. I. Packer and Carolyn Nystrom say that it's both; an essential, expected practice as a follower of Christ, but also a privilege and joy. As we start out learning to pray properly, however, the delight often seems to be missing. Here is practical help for active, honest praying that involves all of who we are - heart, hands and head - and moves us to deeper obedience, joy and intimacy with our Father.

Oops, two books by the same name, different authors
Meant to download the Donald Kraybill book by the same name, but accidentally got this one. It's not a bad book but not the right one for the book group that I'm in.

Author spoken _ Wish I had this when I was younger
This book is incredibly written. The commandments tell us what not to do, but the beattitudes tell us what to do. Pastor Bill White does an incredible job utilizing scripture, And simplifying messages from the Bible. I truly wish this book existed when I was younger, it would have given me a great foundation to work from. It has many chapters in bite size chunks, and has incredible insights by a very experienced spiritual leader. The audio book sounds like a sermon and a story telling by someone that cares about you. God blessed this man with his teaching skills and this book is a huge blessing for the church and new church members.
