Publisher's summary

Named one of the most anticipated books of 2022 by EW, Oprah Daily, Marie Claire, Goodreads and Bookpage!

The USA Today bestselling author of The Worst Best Man is back with a hilarious rom-com about two strangers who get trapped in a lie and have to fake date their way out of it...

Just weeks away from ditching DC for greener pastures, Solange Pereira is roped into helping her wedding planner cousin on a random couple’s big day. It’s an easy gig... until Solange stumbles upon a situation that convinces her the pair isn’t meant to be. What’s a true-blue romantic to do? Crash the wedding, of course. And ensure the unsuspecting groom doesn’t make the biggest mistake of his life.

Dean Chapman had his future all mapped out. He was about to check off “start a family” and on track to “make partner” when his modern day marriage of convenience went up in smoke. Then he learns he might not land an assignment that could be his ticket to a promotion unless he has a significant other and, in a moment of panic, Dean claims to be in love with the woman who crashed his wedding. Oops.

Now Dean has a whole new item on his to-do list: beg Solange to be his pretend girlfriend. Solange feels a tiny bit bad about ruining Dean’s wedding, so she agrees to play along. Yet as they fake-date their way around town, what started as a performance for Dean’s colleagues turns into a connection that neither he nor Solange can deny. Their entire romance is a sham... there’s no way these polar opposites could fall in love for real, right?

So good!!

This was an excellent follow up to “The Worst Best Man”. Both voice actors were great and the guy voicing Dean was a lot better than the guy voicing Max. Definitely looking forward to a third book!

Meh overall

I picked this book bc I wanted a fun end of summer romance. It was okay. It wasn’t that funny overall, and it wasn’t that romantic overall. Probably because it was largely predictable, but it didn’t have most of the gems that make a rom com like this really enjoyable. I liked Deans perspective more than I liked Solange’s. I didn’t really feel like we got to know that much about the characters, and the plot twist was more absurd than it was dramatic. I finished it but… 🤷🏾‍♀️

3.5 stars

Audio was meh. The different narrators pronounced the same words differently and I didn’t love some of the voices. They weren’t distinct. Idk.

Story was cute.

Very contrived

It was definitely entertaining. Loved the characters. But so many of the major plot points seemed overdone, cheesy, or contrived.

Love

Omg, Dean and Solange!! This was the cutest love story. Solange character is so fun and relatable. Her personality was everything. It was a great message on honesty and taking risk. Mia is my new favorite author!!

5 stars for the culture, 1 star story

Let me start out by saying I am 100% here for multicultural stories with Latina and Black female leads. This author is so great when it comes to her leading ladies and showcasing her culture. I will honestly continue to read her work because of this very thing, but this book was boring.

It was similar to the first. I also didn’t like that it literally took them until the end of the book to get together as a real couple. Now, I’m probably alone in this, but I really don’t like the subpar angst when the reader is wondering when they are getting together. By the middle of the book I was so tired of their internal dialogue. I mean we know these characters are going to have a HEA, it shouldn’t take 8 hours to get to the when. I want to see them as a couple. I want to see the sweet moments. I want to see the actual relationship. If I wanted to have the will they, won’t they, I would talk to a highschooler and ask about their love life.

So, yes support this author, she is lovely and there are not enough Latinx/Afro-latina authors who are this great. But, this story was not for me.

Also, I wasn’t a fan of Dean’s. He was okay, definitely forgettable, and really just average.

Lovable and Spicy

I’m just so impressed with Sosa’s ability to create lovable characters who you feel connected to from the beginning. Solange is a gem who’s outrageous beginnings felt plausible and made sense. Dean seemed a bit looser and funnier in “The Worst Best Man “ as Max’s side kick, but I enjoyed the tightly wound version and agreed with his assessment of Solange’s family. They’re amazing, crazy and great fun.

A bit extra at times, but enjoyed listening

A few scenes seemed a little forced and maybe a little unnecessarily detailed, but as a whole I enjoyed the book.

Perfect rom-com

What a great follow up to The Worst Best Man! Such a funny and sexy story, with great dual narration.

Not going to bother finishing

Just degrades into female porn, which is fine if it’s what you are after. Not enough story or characters compelling enough for me to keep going.
