Another M.Z. Masterpiece

I grinned so hard.
I'm a huge fan of Mariana Zapata books! Her banter, sarcasm, sense of humor, the way the characters get to know each other slowly before becoming friends, then lovers, and through it all.. we readers are a fly on wall getting to know the characters, understand them, root for them...

Then, Mariana takes it one step further and makes all these things happen in a sci-fi book...on earth...with a superhero alien that's a family oriented grumpy version of Superman. And while Gracie may be as nosey as a reporter, she's no Lois Lane. I couldn't even imagine liking a superhero book, but she makes it work!! The side characters are equally amazing, especially Grandmother!

I feel like someone challenged Mariana to take her skills to the next level, and she unlocked this SUPERskill. I'm excited for more! If you're considering this book, I will say that the synopsis did NOT do it justice. It didn't read like an action-packed hero book. It reads like any other Mariana book...it just so happens that the grump has a job as a superhero ... we aren't following his job. We're following his love story.

Callie IS Mariana's Voice. I'm soooo happy they used her. She did fantastic as a narrator.

Unexpected

Maybe I should not have been surprised when the male protagonist was written as an actual superhero (not unlike Superman), but I was-surprised, that is. Several of Ms. Zapata’s themes were present in the story such as hard work pays off, and that strong, tall, good looking men fall for feisty, petite, and smart young women. The first half of the story was great and held my interest. However the plot went on too long and the ending was weak. Wall of Winnipeg remains my favorite ❤️

Fantastic novel 10/10

I loved this story from start to finish. It was emotional, lovely, and had a green flag main love interest. I cried. I laughed. It was exactly what I needed.
Maria Zapata has written another wonderful novel. I love all of her books. They’re my comfort read on bad days and I try to reread my favorites once a year at least (if not more). If you love her books, you’ll love this one no doubt.
The female voice actor is fantastic. She really brought the character to life. The male fell flat at times but it was still a great audiobook. I will be adding this to my favorites.

Mariana can do no wrong!

I love everything Mariana writes. Gracie and the Grump did not disappoint. it's so different from her norm but also the same. If familiar with her work, you know what I mean. This book engaged all of my emotions. I truly enjoyed laughing and being afraid at the same time. I especially loved Gracie's wishes of harm. She came up with some really good ones 😅

Wow!

I didn’t know what to expect when I started listening. It isn’t what I expected from this author.. I didn’t think i would like it but I kept listening. I probably would not listen to this again but I am not sorry I bought it. Wonderful readers!!!

So surprising!

This book was an unexpected delight. The author took time to develop the characters and their story. It was so unexpected and I enjoyed every minute of the audible narration.

Loved it!

Very different to her other books (all highly recommended!) in some ways, and yet still the same brilliant funny and relatable characters as ever.
Go listen and fall in love.
