About this listen

A deadly case. An international operative. When a mission turns personal, who will make it out alive?

Trowbridge "Bridger" Hall was raised to be a spy. Leading a highly trained team of covert agents, he’s loyal to his squad and his country. But when his infamous CIA controller and mother assigns his crew an unusual off-books operation, his finely tuned senses scream danger.

Hunting a stolen briefcase across the world, his instincts proven lethally correct when one of his men ends up dead. And with potentially ruthless maternal betrayal and treacherous enemies closing in, it’s play or be played in a vicious game of death....

Can he crack the conspiracy before it costs his life?

The Spy Devils is the high-octane first tale in the Spy Devils thriller series. If you like pulse-pounding espionage, explosive action, and insidious double-crosses, then you’ll love Joe Goldberg’s pause-resisting story.

Twists and Turns

Spy Devils kept my attention through the entire book, and I didn’t want to stop listening. Many unexpected and well thought out plot twists. I’m invested in the characters and hope that they’re is a sequel that includes the Spy Devils characters. Well done. You won’t be disappointed!

Covert Action Thriller

The Spy Devils is an action-packed, adventure with espionage, and conspiracy theories. As a life-trained agent, Trowbridge “Bridger” Hall leads a highly trained group of highly successful covert agents. That is until his CIA handler and mother step in, then everything gets shaky. Now Bridger has to determine what his and his team's next steps will be and who he can trust in this fast-moving story.

The author, Joe Goldberg, delivers a rich detailed spy novel with an intricate web of deceit woven throughout the plot. In addition, he provides unique characters that add to an already rich story. I enjoyed this book, especially the unexpected plots twists!

The narrator, P.J. Ochlan, did a great job of giving each character a unique voice that made following the story easier. The voices accurately reflected the personality of each character – from soft-spoken to snark to deadly and more. Ochlan helped draw the listener in and keep them immersed in the story.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was clear and well produced.

Fabulous start to a series

I swore I was not going to start another new series until I was caught up on all the others I have going… but I also follow a lot of authors on social media and jumped at the chance to win a copy of The Spy Devils.

Joe Goldberg is a new author to me and this is his second book. The Spy Devils launches a new series by the same name. Goldberg has created a fantastic cast of characters with distinct personalities and mannerisms, but still working together seamlessly. This is a great mix of action, adventure, espionage, political & corporate themes as well a humor. My favorite books always have a little snark, banter between characters, or dry wit to break up the tension created by all the high octane action – but this was absolutely hilarious. The only reason it took me so long to finish was a number of appointments plus family (finally! Yay!) visiting. Otherwise this absolutely would have been a two-day listen fest.

I am looking forward to hearing where Goldberg takes Bridger and The Spy Devils next when Rebellious Son is released.

Narration:
PJ Ochlan is also new to me. He was absolutely the perfect match for Goldberg’s writing and these characters. Ochlan has an amazing range of voices which really helped me keep all of these characters straight. He delivers the humorous lines with skill and definitely evokes all the emotions.

I won a free copy of this audiobook from a contest on Joe Goldberg’s Twitter and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

ACTION-THRILLER-SPYING You can't go wrong!

Review of Audiobook- The Spy Devils by Joe Goldberg, Performed by P.J. Ochlan

With a name like “The Spy Devils”, you can bet there may be some spy action going on. However, I wasn’t prepared for the amount of intrigue that author Joe Goldberg was able to bring to the table.

The main protagonist, Trowbridge “Bridger” Hall, is a covert CIA operative who is guided by a ruthless CIA controller who happens to be his mother. Ruthless-Mother, yep… Story gets pretty darn good.

From start to finish, this book delivers action packed scenes with fun/crazy characters, cool techie gadgets like the sniping “Devilbot”, and even some humor.

The performance of this book was done by the talented P.J. Ochlan! There wasn’t a single character in this book in which I could not distinguish. P.J.’s character work was flawless as it always is. It truly is amazing to have a performer bring you to the edge of your seat during action scenes, and this book was full of action!

Great job for both Joe Goldberg and P.J. Ochlan! If you like thrillers and spy action novels, you will love this book! I was given a copy of this audiobook for review purposes and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

The Spy Devils - Bring on the next mission!

In The Spy Devils, Joe Goldberg has spun a fantastic and intriguing tale that is just a little bit 007 and just a little bit Mission Impossible, combined with some clever humor a la Guardians of the Galaxy. The lead character, Trowbridge Hall, is a fellow of considerable skills and intellect, along with a personality that makes him relatable and easy to root for. His merry band, The Devils, is a worthy bunch, able to carry out missions with sufficient creativity and ruthlessness, yet believable enough to keep you invested. Their current mission involves a feat of corporate espionage that carries them across the globe and intermingles them with wealthy oligarchs and criminals, as well as the governments of the United States and several foreign nations — friend and foe alike. Just when you think you have it all figured out, a new twist will send you in a different direction!

I have at least 300 hours of books in my queue waiting for a listen, but when I got to the end of The Spy Devils, I went back to hear it again. I hope Joe Goldberg keeps expanding the reach of The Spy Devils, because I can’t wait for the next mission to begin!

Bridger is so cool and calm

The Spy Devils is your classic elite organization that kicks but. The dynamic of the team is what makes them effective and the cool demeanor of their leader makes it unstoppable.

This book has several different, yet similar, stories going on and it’s clear that they will intersect. I like this because you aren’t wondering what’s going on but it’s not written where you know what’s going to happen. While the book is the classic espionage/spy thriller the writing made it enjoyable.

I look forward to more of The Spy Devils and more of Bridger.

Fantasy fiction

As spy novels go, this was one, I think. Like magic, another credit disappears without leaving a discernable trace.
